Disclaimer: This is not a technical review or comparision. These are few tips(or my view?) for buying 150CC bike. Any comments or contradictions, you are welcome.

Finally I have booked Unicorn this sunday. After trail rides, browsing, discussing with users I have finally gave up Apache RTR, my dream machine and decided to go with Unicorn. I feel most of us will have same confusion while buying a bike. So here are few tips which helps(or atleast make u more confused!) for buying a 150 CC bike.

I have taken mileage, comfort and engine quality/build quality and tried to provide pros and cons of each bike.

I considered the following bikes in this segment.

  1. Pulsar 150 2. Apache RTR 160 3. Hero Honda CBZ 4. Honda Unicorn 5. Yamaha Fz 6. Suzuki GS150R

Pulsar

Pros: Mileage(55 kmpl).

Pricing.

Cons: Engine Quality/High Maintenence.

Looks.

Engine degrades after 3-5 years and increases maintenance cost. Still a complete package with low pricing. Buy if price and mileage is your prime concern.

Apache RTR

Pros: Sporty.

Pickup.

Cons: Mileage(45 kmpl).

Vibrations at 50-60 kmph.

Equipments like fuel indicator, chain sprocket and tyre are not of good quality.

Initial pickup is superb. Seating position is like a race bike which few like(me too) and few say it is not ergonomically designed. If you need performace this is your bike.

Hero Honda CBZ

Pros: Engine quality.

Comfort.

Cons: Overpriced.

Avialable in funky colors.

Long waiting Period at few showrooms.

The new CBZ Xtreme has nothing Xtreme.

Honda Unicorn

Pros: Engine quality.

Comfort.

Cons: Looks, Very traditional look.

Few bad service centers.

Unicorn comes with smooth and quality engine of honda. This is the bike for daily commuter. If comfort, mileage and maintenece is your priority Unicorn is for you.

Yamaha Fz

Pros: Looks.

Engine quality.

Cons: Mileage(40 kmpl).

High price(not over priced).

Carries Yamaha engine which is more reliable than any other. When looks are considered other bikes in this segment have come with minor changes year after year but not this one. Though this is the highest priced bike buy if you want stand out of crowd.

Suzuki GS 150R

Pros: Comfort.

Mileage on highways(60 kmpl).

Cons: Pickup.

Service center are difficult to find.

Has not yet proven.

Though suzuki is in intial stage of extending two wheeler business, GS150R comes with smooth and finest engine. Ergonomically designed. 6th gear improves the mileage. Best one for highway travel.

PS: If you feel this is in wrong place, please let me know the category in which I should post this.
