I bought my Honda Shine (Drum brake version ; Black n grey) about 10 months back. And being a doctor inspecting and visiting various industries and facilities in and around Chennai, I have been travelling solely in the bike and after all these months I have just one word 'EXCELLENT' if I have to describe this wonderful bike.
It's been smooth and efficient and so far its given me no major issues/problems.It needs to be serviced regularly at the Honda service centre to keep it fit and fine.As far as the ergonomics go, I believe it is a wonderful design. Never had any nagging low back aches so far
Of course a few flaws that I found are (though minor only) :-
Every morning the bike requires to be kick started and raised in idle for at least 20-30 seconds.
Some times the bike conks off when u give a sudden throttle, even the service guys couldnt figure out properly so far (Planning to meet the Engineer in charge in my next service and explain to him)
After a long use, (approx 11, 000 kms later) the brakes give those irritating noises...Even on telling that in the service centre, they said that the brake shoes are good and need not change, even though I said i'm ready to spend 600 bucks for it!!! Funny! Either they are too honest or stupid! lols... (no offense meant to them actually..just a pun)
But the good things about it are (from my personal point of view)
The bike runs smoothly and efficiently even if u race down the traffic.. never had any shivers or quivers or funny noises so far
Top speed I've checked it so far is 100 kmph and it was floating literally
The light is quite powerful
The pillion rider seat is perfect for an ideal indian woman. My wife finds it very comfy to sit on and get down unlike the Pulsar or Unicorn. And the front tank is ideally suited for my kid too. She enjoys rides on them! :)
There are still a lot I can keep telling about this wonderbike. But on the whole Its Worth every penny. HONDA has lived up to their name and their standards. No doubt!!! I would rate this 10/10 in every aspect!.
This is my recent update regarding my bike (1st Dec 2009) :
The bike has touched 16, 000 kms and so far so good. The sad thing is regarding the service centre near my place. They recieve something like 120-150 bikes / activas / etc. for service in a day!!!! How on earth will they be able to rectify any issues related to any bike!? The last time I gave my bike for service, it was returned back in the same manner!!! Nothing was looked into. Thank God I have a wonderful sincere and honest 2 wheeler mechanic near my house and gave it to him and told him to replace the brake shoes and check the problem where my engine shuts off suddenly. He gave it to me in a day and now it runs as smooth as new!!!
As far as the mileage is concerned...recently, I found it to give 68kmpl (Within City limits) So far my bike's never ever dried, even after the Fuel gauge needle goes below the 'E' mark!!!
As the days go by, my bike's getting better!!! Its part of the family now! And my vote stays at 10/10 still
