I have purchased Honda Shine(Black) about two years ago. In fact I was one of the first to opt for it and have infact waited for the launch for about 15-20 days.
Basically when I wanted to change my CD-100(Hero Honda), I was looking for a bike with more engine capacity and better looks. Being one of the first 125 CC bikes to hit the market(Super Splendor from Hero Honda already launched, but could not catch up), I readily opted for this bike.
After about two years of using I would like to inform my following experiences for the benefit of my friends who would like to buy it now:
Pros:
The bike is extremely good looking and engine is smooth, like all Honda bikes.
Mileage is around 60 kmph which is acceptable for a 125 cc bike.
Road clearance and balance are good.
Shock absorbers & brakes are good.
Cons:
Servicing is a big problem and most of the dealers are already over burdened and not expanded their facilities after launch of Activa & Shine. I am having a real problem of servicing at Hyderabad.
Spares are not readily available at ordinary automobile shops, which makes it necessary to visit dealer always.
Common problem of chain getting loose now and then, has not been overcome by the manufacturers.
The bike is little overweight and those with small personalities should make extra effort to control it.
To conclude, with good regular maintenance, this bike is worth buying and gives value for the money. If only service issues are sorted out, this will do even better.
