In recent years people prefer the 100cc bikes for their mileage. Power doesn't matter for many riders. Most of the people want a two wheeler with high economy which can take them to their destination safely. As time passed people thinking about the bike which have a decent power and decent mileage.

Also comfort was somewhat important. Then bike companies found a new category of 125-135cc. Which have a power more than conventional 100cc bikes and mileage was also good. In this review I will talk about two bikes of this category - Honda Shine and Hero Honda Super Splendor.

As I am very close to these bikes and have a good experience on both bikes. Because my uncle have both bikes. A 2006 model super splendor and 2009 model shine.

Hero Honda Super Splendor:

A super splendor comes with a conventional horizontal engine as in most of the hero honda bikes. It have a 124.7cc engine with power of 9 BHP @ 7000RPM and have a torque of 10.35NM @ 4000 RPM. It also have a 12 lit. fuel capacity. It is a small bike in size as it is a successor of splendor and have a weight about 121kg. Company says it have quantum core engine but I don't think it have any quality.

Honda Shine:

Honda Shine comes with a semi vertical engine. It have a 124.6cc engine with power of 10.3BHP @ 7500RPM and have a torque of 10.9NM @ 5500RPM. It also have a 11 lit. fuel tank which looks bigger than super Splendor. It have a decent size as per 125cc bike should have. It have a weight of 122kg.

Comfort and handling:

According to comfort level super splendor have as comfort as splendor+ which is not as good as Shine have. You feels you are on a small bike on Super Splendor and Shine gives a feeling of 150cc bike. Both the bike have 4 gear. We can start shine in any gear unlike super splendor. Shine have a decent suspension while Super splendor have stiff suspension. You will feel more comfort on shine than Super Splendor and Shine also beat it in handling. Shine is easy to handle in city and demands less gear changes than Super. Balance of shine is far better than Super Sp.

Mileage:

As per mileage shine gives you 50-55km/l in city and on highway it gives you 55-65km/l and on good ride it may give near 70km/l. In both some riding on highway and some in city it gives you 58-60km/l. Super Splendor gives you 45-50in city and on highway it gives you 50-55km/l. In mixed situation it gives you 52+ mileage. My uncle were always depressed about the low mileage of super splendor. He ride both the bikes 60+km/h speed and shine was giving 50-55km/l while super splendor was giving 45-50km/l.

Performance my ride:

At first I choose the super splendor and I push the kick start. It was started in first attempt and the kick was very soft compare to my passion plus. I put the bike in 1st gear and with some throttle opened the clutch. It have a good pick up and punch. I was very impressed with the broad band gears. So it feels good properly placed gear ratio. I drive some in city. it gives good pick up. It runs good in city and never feel any power loss. Then on highway I ride it on full throttle it goes easily up to 90km/h after that it refused to go further. I leaned on the handle to I touched 100km/h hardly.

In shine the sound was very good and was very silent. It have low gear band as it forces you to take 4th gear at 25km/h speed after that no need to care about gear. It can take over speed breaker easily at 20km/h in 4th gear. The pick up was awesome than super splendor. I opened its full throttle on highway it goes easily up to 100km/h. after some time it reached up to 105km/h. I leaned on the handle bars and able to take it up to 110km/h. It feels you are riding 150cc bike.Super splendor goes 0-60km/h in 7-8sec and shine goes 0-60 in 6-7sec. An incredible riding quality.

Result:

Shine wins the heart of both youth and old age persons . Super splendor does not attracts youth and appreciated by old age people. Shine rocks in ride quality and performance.
