I purchased a Honda Aviator in April 2010. The reason being this is the only scooter which has disc brakes and Honda has upgraded it with a new 110cc powerplant. However ownership has not been so pleasant.

The fuel efficiency has not been above 35 kmpl on any ocassion (always measured by tank full to tank full method). The dealer technicians advised that it will improve after 4000 kms and with 3600 clocked already I haven't seen any improving trend. Fingers crossed!! The ergonomics are worse then what is expected. The scooter cannot be kick started unless the main stand is engaged. The foot pegs positioning for pillion is such that you cannot help soiling the trousers of the driver but that is the case with most scooters. The rear view mirrors cannot be adjusted as the swivel tends to seize with time. The braking is the best in class thanks to disc brake setup with combi-brakes. As far as looks are concerned it is a subjective matter as one man's proverb is other man's poison. The riding comfort is good with the wide seat and front telescopic shocks. To sum it up an just about average two wheeler and definitely not much value for money, leaving aside the dealer woes.

The vehicle had been given starting problems on and off, requiring multiple starts to get it back to life. The problem was traced to a faulty battery which had to be replaced. This replacement had to be done within 2 years of purchase of the vehicle (Cost Rs.1300).

The vehicle's odometer running is 4800+ kms, however the fuel efficeincy just refuses to go north of 35 kmpl (with engine being religiously switched off at traffic signals). The dealer's claim that fuel efficiency will increase after 4000 kms is totally hollow. Hence not recommended for anybody with rising fuel prices.

One more visit to the dealer to get the fuel efficiency better than before, the technician advised that "engine will settle after 10000 kms". This seems to be the clever way to keep customers at bay and actually providing a solution to customer's problems. On the whole the trust level with Honda and its dealers is following a dipping curve. Only silver lining being the service advisor had the engine rechecked by a technician for our satisfaction. Will post an update once fuel efficiency verified.

BEWARE BEFORE YOU PUT BLIND TRUST IN A BRAND NAME!!
