After a lot of research I decided to buy activa a year ago! The main consideration was that its so called a'family scooter'. Well, today I'm regretting the decision to buy it as due to bad shock absorber I started getting back pain, and its just heavy for ladies!
*Positives:
*1) Its stable for long drives, i.e. you get a solid feeling. But the moment you get a even 1-2 inch pot-hole or uneven road, you are gone, BIG jerk!
2) Pick up is good
*Negative:
1) Bad shock absorber: This started giving me back pain. Showed it to the dealer in the first servicing itself, however, they just ignored it! You never feel its bad-ness on a smooth road. The moment you hit a even 1-2 inch small pot-hole or a bump, thats it you get a big jerk and feel the hard-ness. Had shown it to the dealer during many servicings, they simply said that unless its broken or licking oil, we'll NEVER replace it!
Dealer was trying the trick to test-ride it with a pillion rider, but with this the jerk is not that big. Complained to Honda Gurgaon as well, but every time they just push it to the local dealer!
2) UselessHead Light: Just too weak, does not illuminate the road at all. The angle is also not right, does not hit the road correctly.
3) Main Stand heavy: Not very easy to put it on main stand.
4) Side stand warning is not there, what if one forgets it while driving?
5) Choke must for first 1-2 kms. The daily first start does not start without choke, and even if it starts, you need to keep the choke for 1-2 kms
6) Low Milage: Milage is around 40. Which is not very great comparing to Scooty Pep!
7) Cheap, low quality accessories: The extra accessories are of low quality. The handle grip keeps coming out, welding joint separated on side guard.
8) Mirror angle and tightness:Mirror keeps getting loose and does not give a good angle
9) Good only on smooth tar road:Isn't it supposed to give a shock free ride on ok roads? Mine does not give. Even with small bumps and pot-holes, it behaves like I'm riding on dirty road!
10) Handle lock is tricky: Handle lock is tricky, not very easy to lock / unlock!
11) Turning is not easy on slopes or hills. Due to its heavy ness, turning Activa is not so easy on a hilly road. Means if you happen to have a house where the entrance slope is upwards and you need to turn your vehilcle on this slope, then its a BIG task. Mens can do it with some effort, VERY difficult for ladies!
12) **Dealer experience:(Sterling Honda, Pimpri, Pune)
*I took the delivery in a hurry in the evening when day light was not there! BIG mistake. Next day noticed that there is a a lot of scratching on the side-guard and even on one side of the body which was hidden below the side-guard! So, someone must have used the scooter before the delivery. The handle was getting scratched with the top part of the side guard. The mirror angle was bad. Taken it to the showroom the next day, they did cosmetic changes. Finally complained to Honda Gurgaon, then they replaced the side-guard!
I'm still fighting for getting the shock absorber replaced, just few days back had the third service. Again complained for the problem, they did not fixed it. Then again complained to Honda, they called back saying an enquiry is launched and promised me to call back in 24 hours, but I never got the second call. Then dealer promised me that'in a months time, an area manager may see your vehicle!'
So, the servicing is even below third class, rather its negative class.
*Conclusion: I am regretting my decision to buy Activa! So, I guess getting a good Activa is a lottery. Others may get this lottery.
But hey, how many people who buy lottery tickets gets actual prize? You decide wthether you want to buy it or not!
Still if you want to buy it, get your vehicle checked from someone, specifically for the shock absorber! Do Not accept the delivery if you feel anything fishy!*
