I recently bought a TV wall unit/stand from Home Town. This was an imported Malaysian MDF TV unit. I was happy that it was delivered on time, unfortunately my happiness was short-lived when just 3 weeks later, I realized I had been taken for a ride on the price I had paid for it.
The list price for the TV unit was Rs 35, 000/- at Home Town and they had a 20% cash back offer(to be redeemed at Home Town only) - so the effective price was Rs 28, 000/-. I bought the TV unit, and spent another Rs. 6, 000 to buy a wooden Sheesham/Accacia wood cabinet that I liked(that was quoting for Rs. 13, 000). Three weeks later I was in another furniture shop in Bangalore looking for a sofa when I see the same TV unit quoting at Rs 23, 000/-. Must say I felt pretty lousy knowing that I had overpaid by 20% at Home Town, and that too when they were calling it a discount. I can understand difference of Rs 1000-2000, but such with such a large difference in price, they are just taking customers for a ride.
As for the wooden cabinet, they had mentioned they would deliver it in 25-30 days, which itself is quite a long time. It's now 33 days and I am still awaiting delivery. The response from the store when I ask them about the delivery has been very poor. They promise to me call me back, but never do. They have no idea when the delivery will actually happen to the warehouse. All said, the experience with Home Town has been very disappointing.
Three years ago, I had bought a Philips music system at eZone which I have had to repair at least 4 times. I am quite certain now that I am not going to be doing any more purchases with Home Town, nor will I be shopping with Pantaloon/eZone and other such Future Group stores.
My suggestion is to make your furniture purchases at a proper furniture store instead of at Home Town, if you want to get the right price.
