A nice movie I watched recently on HBO. A simple and plain movie with a very deep concept. The movie had Eddie Murphy as a simple man named ‘G’. The personality of Eddie Murphy as ‘G’ is very thought evoking. The movie goes around the life of a Ricky Hayman (Jeff Goldblum) who is a money minded chap who is looking for a missing piece in his life. His life is in doldrums until G comes in the scene. The story goes on to show how G helps him get over his problem in his own style, and how Ricky? tries to takes advantage of G for his own profit. I don’t know how many people have thought about this but after watching the movie I found myself wondering ‘Why was Eddie Murphy’s name kept G?’ The answer started a train of thought I could not stop. Lets get another perspective from another angle. Ready? Here we go!

‘G’ symbolizes the name GOD. Simple when you think about it. Subtle, but so beautiful that you start wondering why you did not think about it earlier. All the habits of Murphy as ‘G’ are actually what God would do. Let me explain.

Scene 1: They show Ricky on a highway. Ricky’s car has a flat tire, his mobile is out of range and he is struggling to change his tire. There is no one who is willing to stop and help. Enter ‘G’. G wants to help Ricky. He does not want anything in return, just wishes to help. Characteristic of God. God helps us. He does not see how rich or poor a person is. He is with us to help us even in places and times where you least expect help.

Scene 2: Ricky does not want anything to do with G. He just wants to make money and be happy with his own life. G knows it and yet when Ricky asks G to help him, G asks him simply ‘Do you want me to do it?’ When Ricky replies in affirmation, G complies. Similarly God helps those who ask for it. Anyone and everyone can ask him for help and He helps!

Scene 3: Ricky tricks G to persuade him to stay and work for him. When Ricky entices him with riches, G asks him ’Do you want me to do it?’ This sentence of G was so heart rendering that it makes Ricky think, and the viewers think too. Selfless and unconditional help. That’s what God does.

There are many more scenes like when G is famous; people try to commercialize his name for there own profit. Just as the world has commercialized God and religion.

‘G’ does not have any religion. He wants people to see the right path. He does not want anything from anyone. He forgives. If he helps, there are no conditions attached. His heart is free from the blemishes of greed and ill feeling. He wants to help everyone.

The movie makers of Holy Man have very nicely personified the characteristics of God into a human and written a very lovely script. The movie is a MUST SEE and thought about.
