Singing has always come easy to Anuradha Paudwal, who received no training to become a talented and versatile singer she has evolved into today. Often doted as the next Lata Mangeshkar, Anuradha began climibing the charts in the music industry, as her Lata impression and versatality gained her those extra brownie points. She was involved in many heated controversies, which began with accusing Lata and Asha Bhonsle of monopolizing the industry, and dubbing the songs of Alka Yagnik in the movie Dil. Consequently, it was then that composers and music directors began turning away from her, and as a result, they also began ignoring her. She had many hits starting with Aashiqui, Betaand Meera Ka Mohan, to name a few. She was the reigning queen of all singers in bollywood after Lata Mangeshkar, and even guided Alka Yagnik, Kavita Krishnamurthy, and Sadhana Sargam through the industry in a way. However, once Alka and Kavita gained threshold of the industry, Anuradha shifted into singing under the T-Series Banner, where she sang mostly Hindi Bhajans. Her Bhajans earned her popularity and fame, as she was predominantly the only bhajan singer with talent and success under her belt. Although her bhajans earned her success, she also began losing her grip in Bollywood playback singing, as she was missing from the industry for some time. She didn’t sing in any films for a long period of time, which affected her negatively. Her beautiful, versatile and competent voice was left uncredited for a while until she began singing in the industry once again. Like Alka, Anuradha too holds sweetness and innocence in her voice, and can adjust quite well to songs consisting of a high-pitch. Many people will acclaim that Kavita Krishnamurthy has left Anuradha Paudwal in the dust; however, I completely disagree. Anuradha may have missed out in her chance to over-turn the tables in the industry, but in my books, Anuradha is a singer I would listen to more than Kavita. I’m not a fan of Kavita Krishnamurthy, and Anuradha’s vocal strengths are much stronger. Anuradha has sung many genres of songs, ranging from Bhajans, Filmi songs, and classical songs. One bhajan I really adored and admired of hers was the "Gayatri Mantra", in which she sang with complete devotion and dedication, and not to mention, her daughter, Kavita Paudwal, also sang with her. Here are some of Anuradha’s hits which i’ve enjoyed over the years:

1). Dhak Dhak karne laga-Beta

She sang this song with innocence, and a good amount of zest in her voice. She also won a filmfare award for this song for her performance.

2). Jo pyar karta hai-Yeh Raasta hai pyar ka

She sang this song sensationally, and bagged the song from Kavita Krishnamurthy entirely. She once again proved that her vocals can never play second fiddle to any other singer.

3). Saari duniya pyaari-Meera Ka Mohan

The first time I listened to this song, I remember I kept repeating it to listen to it over and over again. Anuradha sang this song diligently and gracefully.

4). Kismat Se Tum-Pukar

This song is where Anuradha completely proved her competency as a singer. She sang this song with innocence, and emotions. Her vocals matched the high-pitched sounds of the song, which i’m sure no other singer would have been able to do the same.

5). Chaha Hai Tujhko-Maan

This is one song where you can see why she was given recognition for her performance. She sang the song with grace and true emotions, which is why it became one of her hits.I actually preferred her song, Khushiyan Aur Gham, over this one. I she she rendered that song much better and the song itself was much better.

~Anuradha Paudwal is a singer who has indeed shaped herself and passed the test of time in the playback industry. I appreciate her as a singer next to Alka Yagnik and I hope that other singers see her as an idol and inspiration for the hardwork she has put into the music industry.~
