Guffaw from the Gut!. Review on Hitch Movie

I had the heartiest laugh ever in my life,last weekend, when I went to watch this Will Smith special, Hitch. Its a movie that anybody who even remotely loves comedy, should not miss.I truly did guffaw from my gut in the course of the two hours that the movie lasted!

Storyline

The story is set in contemporary conditions in the US,where a person engages in the profession of being a ''love consultant''.He offers remedies and solutions to people who are looking to solve their problems in love.He prospects clients,meets them,engages in conversation with them to understand their core ''issues'',uses scientific love matrices,assigned methodologies to solve their problems.And in the course of doing this, he runs into a reporter from a leading daily who is trying to get a story out of him on one of his clients, who is supposedly in a relationship with a famous star.As they converse and get together,this love consultant begins to fall in love with the reporter and she reciprocates a lot of his signals.Finally,he discovers her true motives but is yet not able to shake her out of his system, as he has fallen madly in love with her. And she,on the other hand,realising her folly of using him for the purposes of her story,feels miserable and realised that he is very special to her.Finally,they unite.

My Take

The story line is very simple and unique.Not too many of us would even think of being a love consultant or a date doctor, for a living. But that is exactly what this marvel of an actor,Will Smith is.The ease with which he has pulled off that role leaves little doubt in my mind,that nobody else could've done it the way he did.Such poise,timing,brilliance,apt expressions,terrific humour,scintillating dialogue delivery with his inimitable tone and a fantastic plot by the writer as well.Yes,the girls in the movie are pretty attractive,their costumes while not revealing are pretty well-designed,the make-up on these attractive damsels is not overdone and their role in the movie is definitely critical.Not to miss, that good old fatso client that the date doctor looks to help!

And then of course,the date doctor himself,falling in love with Sarah - I thought that was an ingenious move by the writer,in that,even date doctors are clueless how to woo their OWN women,however much they may be offering ''solutions'' to the world about the success mantra for this domain!

Though the movie is set in typical American conditions, I think it more than conveys a lot of messages to many of us here in Indian conditions.The manner in which so many of us try these different antics to woo that special woman in our lives,is a sad comparison, to the ''professional help'' that is available in the Americas!Wonder if it would work here,but as Will Smith says in his last line,''Basic Principles,there are none''!

Its been a while since I had such a laugh, but I can definitely tell you that I had a big stomach ache when I left the hall after the movie.That's how much I laughed.

Watching this movie again,is no Hitch whatsoever!
