Hitachi AC is all about Brand, and nothing else

I bought 2 Hitachi Window ACs this January 2012. One is a 1.1 Ton and the other a 1.5 Ton. I regret my decision today for going with the brand name -- "Hitachi". I will give you my reasons below.




  1. It is only till the time you buy the AC, you can claim you are buying a reputed branded AC.




  2. The minute you get your AC delivered by the showroom, be in Viveks or Vasanth or Shah's, it is only a Franchise company that will get in touch with you for the installation. By this time, your association with Hitachi company ceases to exists.




  3. The guy who came for the installation is from a franchise and NOT from Hitachi company. He was pathetic. Absolutely no skills in his hands to get the AC installed. I would say, he was using my AC as his "learning ground". Would you believe, they come to install an equipment even without the needed tools & screws? and ask me if by chance I have these at my home ?




  4. Being January and the weather still being slightly chill and pleasant, I hadnt used much till beginning of March. I found that the AC cools the room, alright. But there isnt much "throw" or "air circulation" within the room. I had to necessarily use the ceiling fan to get the effect of AC inside the room by circulation. I have been using a Videocon AC for the last 13 years and I have not faced this problem before. Iam not sure, if only Iam facing this problem with my AC or if everyone else have similar issues.






So Iam not satified completely using this product.




  1. Next, no one contacted me for the regular service that is the 3 or 4 free service in the first year of purchase. I had called up their call center to register and they have been promising to send the technician, but no one has come in the last 10 days. I did follow-up for 3 more times and everytime they promised, that someone will get in touch with me from their Ambattur office (btw, Iam from Chennai).




Iam told, that this being summer, they are flooded with complaints and stuff and thats the reason for the delay in service. Thats not really convincing to me. If you dont have enough people to support your product, then do not sell more, Restrict your sales or improve your service lines. Asking your customer to put up for the inconvinience is NOT acceptable or customer delight. Do I need to explain this to an International brand like Hitachi?


Lastly, looking at the way the service works, I can conclude one thing for sure. All this Brand name matters only till the time you purchase a product. Soon after that, it is going to be installed, maintained by a XYZ company who is the franchise. This same franchise would be servicing other brand ACs too and even for that matter Non branded assembled ACs. So how does it matter whether you buy a Hitachi or O-General or a pure assembled unit ? You are at the mercy of the Franchise technician and his skillsets. Nothing more. If the technician is great, your unit will function all right and you dont have a headache. But you get a lousy guy at your doorstep, you will end up like me, writing this review on mouthshut. Good luck to all of us, buying Hitachi or any other branded products.
