At present I don't own a Car. I had the luxury of riding a Volkswagen 1600 Fastback, during my UNESCO days. It had the unique Fuel Injection System, and naturally no carburreters. It had tubeless tyres. I had to sold it with tears in my eyes when I came to India on completion of my UNESCO mission in Indonesia, my second home for all practical purposes.
Although I don't own an Ambassador Car, I have been using it on hire whenever I go to different places. It is roomy, and its interiors are not bad at all. It was a copy of the Morris, and Hindustan Motors have not changed the basic designs of Ambassador Cars. AC can be fitted into it.It is a heavy Car, and owner driven comforts and pleasures are not there. Spare parts are easily available. It can negotiate on all types of roads in all weathers. Its fuel efficiency is good. When Diesel was cheap, it was really economical to have a Diesel Ambassador, but not now. My Travel Agent at Angul charges me Rs.3.00 per Km. Not bad, but he charges me for day halts and night halts. With a luggage carrier, it can be really affordable. Has Anyone used it for Safari ? It is available in Black and White colours, but the white ones are very common on the roads. Excepting the Chief Minister in Orissa, all other Ministers use Ambassadors. Yesterday I found in a news magazine that some Car Workshop has made a limousin by joining together the bodies of two Ambassadors. Best of Luck to Ambassadors !
