Bollywood is really struggling these days as far as finding talented personnel is concerned who can ”act” in the true sense of the word. Himanshu Malik is one such rare guy who can indeed act provided given an appropriate chance to do so.

What he needs are some good meaty roles, which have some substance and give him a chance to show his versatility as an actor. The advantage with Himanshu Malik is that with his kind of looks he can play both choclaty as well as macho roles. With the kind of built he has, he can look good not only in jeans-tshirt but in formals as well.

One thing that really attracted my attention to this actor was his accent and dialogue delivery. He doesn’t rushes into the dialogues nor does he hams. There is a calmness about the way he acts. A cool as a cucumber kinda attitude. If the dialogues given to him are intense like in that scene of Tum Bin where he is talking to Sandali Sinha in the car, that may seem like music to your ears.

He doesn’t overacts at all. His acting in the movie Khwahish was really quite good. In the scene where doctor tells him that Mallika is going to die, an actor like Shahrukh would have created a chaos in the hospital itself by shrieking, shouting, crying and throwing away things, but not Himanshu. He listens to the whole thing and manages to give the expression of pain & shock very subtly without any overacting. Just the way it is in real life. That one moment showed the class this guy possesses.

As I already mentioned before in the movie Tum Bin he again was very good in the intense sequences with Sandali Sinha and was able to make a mark despite the presence of lead hero Priyanshu Chatterjee.

In his latest movie Rain also he was one of the strengths of the movie. He showed great versatility in his acting. However, he looked slightly fat. He needs to go to the gym and shed a few kilos. Also, he has a long way to go before he can make his mark in Bollywood. He has had a decent start and now he needs to capitalize on it. He needs to work hard.

I definitely rank him higher than actors like Emraan Hashmi who seem so artificial while giving a smooch scene. This guy looks to be “in control” even during such scenes and they look quite aesthetic rather than vulgur. Maybe that’s why one of the MS members criminal called him a smooch (smooth) operator and rightly so.

One more aspect that he may work on if he wishes to survive in Bollywood is his dancing ability. That is a must if he wishes to succeed as a mainstream commercial hero.

I hope film makers can realize his talent and give him appropriate opportunities. The kind of actor he seemed, he can definitely make it big provided he is nurtured in a proper way.

If a model like John Abraham can make a name for himself in the film industry. This model turned actor Himanshu Malik isn’t far behind either.

Three cheers to the “Smooch Operator”!
