Quick question: Can you name 3 Brands in Toothpastes?

99% of us would say Colgate, Close-up, and Pepsodent

Another quick one: Have you heard or used Himalaya Toothpaste before?

99.99% of us would first wonder what I am talkin about...then say NO!!

Why then am I writing about it?! Read on.

Some months ago, I was shopping for a good toothpaste. The brand had to be other than Promise, which caused my mother great discomfort and problems. My mother suffered a fungal infection at the edge of her lips because of it, and it cost us a Packet to get rid of the problem. But the worst thing is that the same infection recurred a few days later. Only when it recurred did the we understand that Promise Toothpaste was the root cause. From that moment onwards, I was skeptical of trying out new toothpastes, and set my sight firmly on either Colgate or Pepsodent. But something caught my eye in the supermarket. It was Himalaya Toothpaste.

I went about reading through the cover and understood that it was an Ayurvedic Proprietary Medicine and 100% natural. Not only that, an Oral-B toothbrush came free along with it! Without any second thoughts, I bought it and showed it to my parents. My mother, recovering from the infection, was visibly distressed and asked me why I experimented again. When I told her it was Ayurvedic and there would be no problems, she was a little convinced, but still a little unsure about using it.

The day I removed the paste tube from the box and looked at it, I was taken aback. It was unlike anything I’d seen. It was brownish, without the usual smell of mint or clove that toothpastes have. I was worried. Hesitantly, I put some of it on the brush and started brushing. Few seconds later, a Cold Wave broke out in my Mouth. The freshness in the breath, the chill feeling inside the mouth, it was just Mind-Blowing. Every inch of my mouth felt like it was filled with ice-cubes. Next, my mother tried out the same and came out not so impressed. I asked her if she liked the paste. She said it was OK. Father echoed the same opinion. I was surprised, since this toothpaste packed a punch I never found in any other toothpaste.

However, as days passed, my parents started feeling, slowly but surely, what I had felt on the first day of brushing. They were very happy with the paste. The best thing, however, was that the paste did not aggravate the infection, which occured and then recurred after using Promise. With proper medicines, the infection vanished forever.

Since that day I have stuck to using Himalaya toothpaste. No more Colgate, or even Pepsodent. I am very satisfied with the toothpaste since it sticks to its job, which is cleaning my teeth, gums and keeping it fresh. The USP of the toothpaste is that it is 100% natural. It’s an Ayurvedic product so I can bet it won’t have any side effects. The bonus is that Himalaya Drugs is desperate to capture a sizeable portion of the market. So what they’re doing is that instead of flashing ads on TV, they’re keeping special offers like a free Oral-B toothbrush, or 50% extra toothpaste for the same price. Now that’s what I call value for money. If one were to compare it to the other products in the market, I guess this one wins hands down.

Firstly, there is NO Toothpaste that claims to be 100% natural. Colgate Herbal tastes like its got some herbs mixed in, but its not Ayurvedic. The company does not claim that either. And talking about Pepsodent or Colgate Total, I feel that the claim that it keeps fighting germs for 12 or 16 hours is just humbug.

Ever since I started using this toothpaste, I have been recommending it to everyone. I was initially apprehensive of speaking to people about stuff like toothpastes, but decided that if it is going to be helpful to others, why not?!

Coming to the Ingredients of the toothpaste, its Anar (pomegranate), Babool, and Neem I guess. Actually, it really doesn’t matter. Just go buy it from the nearest store. You will definitely come back to thank me for this piece of advice!!
