It's my pleasure to share with you my experiences with my Hero Honda Splendor Plus motorcycle.I bought my lovli Splendor Plus at Srinivasa Automobiles, Tambaram Sanatorium on December 07, 2004.So, let me share with my readers, a balanced view (as far as possible) about my Splendor Plus.First, about the Positives:The Splendor Plus gives me a good mileage of 55-60 km/lr in city roads. Sometimes even 60 plus also. The suspensions are also good compared to a TVS motorcycle.A great motorcycle for gentlemen, who use it for office to home/home to office shunting.Coming to the Negatives:The service centre (@ the dealer's) is one place where the customer becomes the holy cow kamadhenu - to be exploited/milked to the fullest.
When I gave my vehicle for the fourth service after a couple of years, they said that the rear tyre has worn out, and the carburettor has to be changed. Also, a whole lot of technical jargon came out in beautiful verbal jugglery, and finally when I asked for the estimate, they said 12, 000/- "Approximately". I almost fainted, and said, i'l give it for service some other time!!!I was literally dazed!!!. Little did I realise that I was rearing and feeding a little elephant in the form of a motorcycle , until I saw these service outlets which are owned by the dealers themselves, trying to get the maximum they could out of the purses of their "loyal" customers.
Again, during foggy/rainy days, it's difficult to start your vehicle in the morning at one go. You'll have to wield the choke atleast ten times before the throttle says 'get set go'...Spare parts are a bit expensive at the dealer's premises. Elsewhere, the same can be got at a comparatively lesser price value.
Finally, because of the clamour for Hero Honda vehicles, the quality of service has gone downnnn a great deal. Usually, customers are the king, but now, with the ever increasing demand for servicing, customer has become a 'pawn' in the hands of the servicing guys.
One bit of advise I can say is that:
Practically, it's good to have a good HERO HONDA Service wallah closer home, with whom you share good vibes, who will take care of your vehicle if you can give your vehicle periodical regular maintenance.
Again, don't expect your Splendor Plus to give you good brakings at high speeds of 90 and above. It fails like nine pins.
Regular checking of engine oil is necessary; that apllies for the brakes and the flexibility of the chains. One disadvantage about the Hero Honda vehicles is that, after 10, 000 kms, they sound like tatters, giving a creaking, groaning sound that makes it sound like a ten year old vehicle.
But for these flaws, it's one vehicle which can give you value for money at least to a moderate extent!!!
