One of the most successful and highest selling locally made ‘performance’ bikes in the country has been the Karizma. When launched in 2003, it re-wrote the rules of the 200cc+ segment in India. It looked awesome, performance very well and came backed by a reliable, smooth, efficient engine and a very comfortable ride as well. In 2009, the bike got a slight revamp and was named the Karizma R. This also added a small belly fairing to it along with new graphics for the body and the speedometer console.
Today, in the company of other 200-250cc bikes, the Karizma still manages to look fresh and appealing. The quarter fairing looks nice and so do the five different color options, especially ‘Spotlight White’.
Swing a leg over the bike and you are impressed with the big bike feel that the Karizma carries. The three pod speedometer console looks nice and the overall comfort of a higher order.
The 223cc single cylinder engine is in a soft state of tune which means no matter how hard you push the bike, it mostly feels relaxed and unstressed. It puts out 17Bhp of power and 18.35Nm of torque which is enough to give it a sub 5 second 0-60km/h sprint and a top speed in access of 125km/h on the speedometer. At the same time, as per IDC, the Karizma returns a fuel economy of 48.5kmpl. The engine, like all other Hero MotoCorp products, is very smooth and vibration free.
