I selected Hero Honda Hunk with guidance of MS reviews and here is my take on my hunk which has completed 7200 kms till date. Date of Purchase : 18th Oct 2008. Other bikes considered before buying my Hunk was Xtreme and Unicorn.

Looks : I liked Hunk's macho look, the entire styling is simply flawless from front to back , the back looks bit bald though. I liked Hunk's red dials, it looks different.

Power : The bike is very powerful, the 14.4 PS engine takes even heaviest load effortlessly in all gears, it's accleration is quite amazing is well suited for city commuting. I have not crossed 90 kmph yet but many times I reach 80-90 kmph speeds. At about 75 kmph, the bike vibrates pretty badly but after crossing that speed the bike again becomes smoother. Yet to test the top speed,

Handling : The bike feels quite light weight once you are on saddle, and while riding the bike handles fantastically. Braking is adequate, rear brake could have been more 'bity'. Cornering is good on highways. Lots of power and torque right from start and even in fifth gear the bike pulls effortlessly even with heavy pillion. I think this bike can be used for long distance touring b'cos it's good on highway and very comfortable seating position plus it can cruise well at 80-90 kmph w/o much stress.

Fuel Effeciency : Probably this factor delayed my selection a lot, finally I went to HH service station and took direct feedback from owners (about 7 hunk owners), the figures from them were 45-50 kmpl and one enthusiastic owner saying 55. Last week I measured (reserve method) to be about 43.6 kmpl (normal city driving), two months back it was 44 kmpl. So I am quite happy. On highways I feel the bike can return very good mileage as I normally use very less of 5th gear in city driving.

Update 25th July 2009 : LAST WEEK I TRIED SHELL PETROL AS PER MY FRIEND'S RECOMMENDATION, THE MILEAGE NOW HAS SHOT UP TO 48 KMPL. (In B'lore city driving 90 percent driving in non 5th gear)

Warranty : This is one of the reason I choose Hunk...3 years/40, 000 kms, no other 2 wheeler in India has such attractive warrany terms on engine, But just six free services for Ist year only. I heard some dealers give one bonus free service if kms are less after one year of usage.

Issues/Improvements :

  1. I didn't like black theme, the steel grey colored engine would have been better (splendor)

  2. The horn is very feeble, but I seldom use horn, it could be bit louder not very load.

  3. HH has to improve service quality, it may be the best, but lots of improvements can be done, free services are done w/o any check-sheets, mechanics can forget important checks.

  4. Free svc terms are not good, you need to finish off all free svcs within one year, this is bad.

  5. Cold start with choke is not good like Activa, (I always kick-start in the morning).

  6. Another couple of thousands could be discounted as the bike has no Digital console/LEDs.

Conclusion : It's a bike that can be used for normal commuting, it can be used for touring as well, good mileage, super handler, svc is good, double riding is also comfortable and powerful. In 150cc it's a all-in-one bike and I strongly recommend this bike.

UPDATE 17thMarch2011 : The bike is doing well odo reading 18, 750kms, no issues and one big surprise, I measured city riding mileage of 50.8kmpl, this is a great thing and I found out when petrol prices are spiralling north.

I strongly recommend the bike as the Fuel efficiency seems to be a big advantage
