Here is a review of my brand new Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme. This is my first ever bike...i decided to get a bike because it’s more practical in terms of maintenance and also suitable for a college student like myself.
My choices before I made the purchase:Once I decided that I want to go for a 150 c.c bike... my choices were either the new Bajaj Pulsar 150 or the TVS Apache. I didn’t consider the Honda Unicorn because of its bland looks... and also the CBZ Xtreme because it wasn’t that good looking either... But wait..!! I hadn’t yet seen it running on the roads. And then I saw it on the roads and instantly fell in love with its large size and aerodynamic looks. Infact according to me it is one of the best looking bikes in India, and definitely the best looking in its segment.
So I brought it home on March 15th, 2007. At the time of writing I had completed 211 kms, and the highest speed that I have achieved so far on my bike is 63 km/h, which will remain the highest before the first service of the bike. The bike is in its run-in period.
My evaluation of my bike on its various features
LOOKS: 8.5/10- As I mentioned, it is a good looking, large, handsome bike, which makes heads turn. The front fairing does look somewhat conventional.. but the rest of the bike will surely make you hold your breath. It is beautiful and strikingly aerodynamic. I’d like to mention the rear indicators, which are integrated into the rear LED headlamps. They give the bike a nice sporty look. The silencer is most definitely the best looking one can find on a 150 cc bike. And the black engine and alloy wheels add more to the already beautiful package.
GEARS AND BRAKES: 9.5/10- Everyone who has rode my bike has paraised its gearshift and tell that it is like ’butter’. Absolutely nothing to complain about here. The pattern is 1 down 4 up. They are like karizma’s gears, which again add to the sporty persona of the bike. One small thing i’d like to mention here is that the bike’s neutral takes a little bit of getting used to..it sometimes take 2-3 tries to get into neutral.The braking is top-notch and I will surely be doing stoppies on my bike once I am done with the run-in. The bike has disc brakes on the front.
MILEAGE:8/10- The mileage is pretty good for a 150 cc bike... although I’m not 100% sure, I think it must be between 45 and 50 kmpl. That is what I expected from the bike and its what I am getting.
SUSPENSION:10/10- Only one word for the suspension.. EXCELLENT..!! No matter what kind of road you ride it on, you would feel like you’re riding on clouds. No room for improvement here.
ENGINE:9.5/10- You may know that the CBZ X-treme is the most powerful 150cc bike in India. It gives 14.2 bhp of raw power out of 149 cc. The nearest competitor being the Pulsar 150, which gives around 13.9 bhp. The pickup is amazing and I am whizzing down the street in no time. Also the purring sound the engine makes, puts a smile on my face. Riding the bike.. it feels like a somewhat toned town version of Karizma. Once the bike is out of run-in period, I will push the envelope and see how good it really is. But so far, so good.
BALANCE, CONTROL AND RIDING STANCE:10/10- The bike may look big, but when you actually ride it it feels light and ’in-control’. The riding position is comfortable. Both tall and short riders would have no problems riding the bike. The turning and stableness of the bike is brilliant. And not once have I fallen from or lost control of the bike, inspite of this being my first bike.
VALUE:9/10- The bike is priced at Rs.60, 620 on-road Delhi (at the time of writing). With basic accessories it cost me a little more than 61k. Fair price for the excellent bike. One thing I’d also like to mention is that I am disappointed that the CBZ Xtreme doesn’t come with a digital speedometer, like the Pulsar 150.

I feel this bike is best in 150cc without any doubt, go ahead and get the unstoppable thriller.
