I am posting this review after the first servicing of my bike. My earlier review was under the CBZ Xtreme Disk Brake. My bike has clocked 700 km now and needless to say, it is running smoothly as ever. The mileage has also improved and is now close to 51 (under highway + city conditions). As a precaution I am still not shooting above the 60kmph mark till the next servicing.

However I had a hellish experience while getting my bike serviced. I went to Rohan Automobiles (Bhubaneswar) early in the morning to give my bike for servicing. My turn came at around 12. After the washing was done, they took my bike to the service area.

After performing some basic checks like chain slack, clutch-throttle free play, engine oil change, etc. the mechanic began to unmount my bike and said the servicing is done. When I protested saying that he has not even checked the carburettor nor has he cleaned the oil filter and oil screen, he said that only this much is done in the first servicing and the mileage may go down if he touched the carburettor.

When I showed him all the points that are mentioned in the service booklet, he called the supervisor. But supervisor had something different in his mind. He told me that he'll get the oil screen and filter cleaned but while opening the engine, if the gasket (paper packing on the periphery of inside of engine cover) broke then I'll have to pay for its price. I didn't had a clue what was happening. But I still told the mechanic to go ahead.

Now the engine oil (which had been replaced earlier) needed to be drained out since oil filter and screen had to be cleaned. Before I could make out what was going on, the moron mechanic palced an old and dirty mug under the engine and drained out the engine oil. He then cleaned the oil screen by pressurized air (it should be cleaned with clear petrol as per Hero Honda) and put back the engine cover and poured back the engine oil from that dirty mug (oil filter was still not cleaned).

This was not the end of it all. My bike was never checked for front and rear suspension or tyre pressure. The mechanic then hurriedly unmounted my bike and said that the servicing is over. The bike had all the oil and grease marks from the soiled hands of the mechanic but they never bothered to clean it. When I complained about the whole issue to the General Manager, Services (Mr. PK Das) he tried to hush up the matter and told me that they'll look into it.

I am planning to write a complaint to the hero honda customer care but feel that this would be just another drop in the ocean. Hero Honda should take some strict action against the dealers who exhibit such kind of after sales support. I would be grateful if any of you can provide me the direct e-mail of the someone higher in the customer care division so that my complaint does not fall on deaf ears.

Anyways, coming back to my bike, though giving good performance overall, it is still showing a few glitches. Firstly it does not start easily in the morning. Only after I give choke that it starts. And even after starting, it tends to stop if I give less race. Only after it has run for 3-4 kms that the engine warms up and it behaves normally. I believe that it has not been tuned properly but the Hero Honda mechanics say that it is ok (now I have stopped believing those morons). Secondly the gears are still a bit hard. I was told that after the first servicing they'll smoothen up but it has not happened till date.

I need suggestions on these two problems since I don't want to go to those Hero Honda mechanics again and waste my time. I am also a bit apprehensive about getting my bike checked from some roadside mechanic. So it would be great if someone can provide a solution to my problem.

Regards,

Manas
