Well first about myself,

i am a engineer working for an electronic company and do research and development work, age 32 and my salary is not very high.

i tell you of my experience when I decided to buy a new bike.

i have driven kawasaki 4 stroke about 10 years back for 5 years

then I bought splendor and drove it for next 5 years

and 15 days back I bought ambition,

i completed 5 years with my splendor and was afraid that its engine may give way and would lead me to spend heavily to get it done, so I

wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible.

when I had bought splendor, there were not many choices in the market. either u buy kawasakhi which was very heavy on my pocket or you have

to buy a honda, simply there were no other choices.

in honda you had CD100, CD100SS, Splendor and CBZ just being introduced.

Because they said all were 100CC bike I decided on Splendor, not too much mind blowing exercise was required.

Splendor gave me satisfactory service for almost 5 years.

This time the choices were many, infact every day I would hear a new choice. I tried to search the net for assistance but didnot find this site.

My requirements were

something more than 100 cc.

looks were not that important coz each bike is good in a way or other.

bigger rear tyres

low maintainance

good mileage

i am used to drive a vehicle at 65-70 kmph average speed on highway and feel splendor engine got over driven because of that, so I wanted a

bigger engine.

pulsar

--------

infact this time, my heart was on pulsar, and I infact went for a test drive. I did like the bike but....

  • the showroom have removed the speedometer connection and they were going to sell this bike to a customer after giving

test drives. it could be me too and I wouldnot like a test driven bike.

-the price is very good compared to others for what we get. it had a rpm indicator which I think is more important if you are worried

about performance of a bike.

-it is really male bike

  • I have a nice 5 year kid who likes to sit in the front. pulsar didnot have the space for her

LML bikes

--------------

  • the looks are good and they claim the performance to be good too

  • the prices were ok but it was 110 cc and so I discarded the idea.

TVS Victor

---------------

-my kid likes it from TV advs. and wanted me to buy it.

-i feel tvs didnot do good in bikes in past and so didnot think it wise to put my money on it.

-i think its unfair to tvs after I hear people opnion about it but I somehow couldnot put my money on it.

-the other reason is 110 cc

ambition

------------

frankly speaking I didnot like the front view.

but side views are good.

its a male bike too

i like cbz to be very attractive, but I have meet no one recommending it for its mileage and maintainance.

fifth gear did attract me, sitting was comfortable too.

i was very reluctant to buy this bike coz I tried and treid and till today after almost 30 days, I havenot see a single ambition on road

other than mine. exclusive bike

i somehow forced myself to take this bike coz it was 133 cc and company claims 75 kmpl. I feel honda knows how to make high mileage bike

and I thought it would be unfair to not trust them for average.

now my experience with this bike.

  • silent, I have not seen a more silent bike. the best firing I like personally is of suzuki samurai.

  • idle condition is not repetative. I mean when I leave it idle on a red light, I many times find the engine to stop many times.

  • I have found a problem with this bike and hope it gets alright. suppose I drive this bike at a constant speed for a long time, that is say for 5 mins of more

continuously, I find the engine loses a stroke again and again. it makes a long drive a bit uneasy and my mind have to remain a bit more active unnecessarily

to register that unperiodic stroke miss.

my conclusions : I thought it would be unwise to trust someone else than honda, (bajaj, tvs and lml). I didnot think about yamaha coz I donot think they are good

for 4 strokes.

i have checked the mileage of my ambition and found it to be around 58 or 59. I give out the details

i have bought ambition some 10 dyas back

till today I have driven 600 kms

i checked my average after 300 kms.

i get around 58 kmpl.

i drive 25 kms to office and 25 kms to home. most of the road is highway with no breaks requried.

i drive my bike at 50 kmph speed.

will keep u informed and hipe the information helps

well today again on 7/2/2003 I got an average of 60
