Hi,
My left columns says IM a true Hero Honda hater but exceptions are always there.I'd driven each and every bike of Hero Honda from CD100 to Zma.Nothing impressed me except Ambition coz it was an exception (for me :)).
As the company says ''Jo dikhta hai wo bikta hai !''.Thats y ergs, dynamics and design of HH bikes are better than its competitors (though they never give addons). This is also one reason for CBZ/Karizma higher sales.
When they launched Ambition,HH showed something inbetween Passion and CBZ who were bestsellers at that time compromising avg and power.Wel ! The bike wasn't so good looking but impressive performance wise. The sales figure for Ambition aren't so high in the past. They again revamped Ambition with dual ton graphics and front bikini resembling CBZ/CBZ*.
Now the Ambition I m describing is a newer version purchased in April 2004.It is my cousin's bike. The bike wasn;t in good condition when I got it.She was standing still from 5-6 months+done 11,000 kms with loads of scratches.Engine oil wasn't replaced, spark plug wasn;t working,Battery nt charged, brake shoes need replacement and clutch plates were almost dead.
First of al I drove it about 50 kms to my residence. With so many problems the bike ran smooth and really I was amazed. Then went to mechanic and got some of its problem solved.
The factors which impressed me abt Ambition
1.Design: Wel the revised AMBITION was better than its predeccessor in graphics.Looks impressive from every angle.
2.Engine and Performance:Engine was silent.Silencer sounds better than CBZ.Pickup was excellent can b compared with Pulsar dtsi UG2.The bike run smooth upto 65 kmph and then comes in vibration mode.
Performance is almost similar to CBZ.I didn;t notice 0-60 kph in hw mny seconds coz these things are for records.11 bhp + ~130 kgs is a good power/weight ratio.Whenever I raised its throttle in traffic she never disappoints.Fast (nt the fastest), Smooth and Simple.
3.Maintanance:Everyone says HH needs maintenace. But guyz I never noticed its engine oil needs replacement after driving for another 1500 kms. coz I forget :)).
4.Comfort:Though the body wasn;t so strong but Seating posture is the best in Ambition. The bike is tall and slim with handle bars at proper height.I never got backaches.Bike is more comfortable than pulsar (for rider).
Though I don't like Ambition'z:
1.Body : Not so strong. The bike shakes a lot with nuts and bolts needs adjustment frequently.
2.Balance : Wel the tyres weren;t so good. The slim body makes it tough to balance a Heavy pillion.
3.Fuel Factor: The best bike with 10cc higher than its segment lacks fuel efficiency. The maximum avg she delievered : 42 kmpl and worst 33 kmpl.

AMBITION vs ACHIEVER
Once I test drived Acheiver which is Ambition replacement.I wouldn;t recommend anyone to go for Achiever coz.
Pickup almost same
Seating posture not good
Dials aren't so impressive
No change in Body Quality
Looks of Ambition more better

VERDICT
Although Achiever is good in mileage and balance I still don't think its an Ambition replacement.Ambition was a good concept and HH stopped its production. The main reason behind she was tough to stand in competition with Bajaj.Karizma and Achiever both belongs to Ambition family.Experts say Ambition failed to make its place in Auto market but on an avg Pulsar:Ambition ratio is 3:1 (in delhi).Still HH stopped its production. It was better for HH to redefine Ambition as Ambition* or Ambition+ with 150cc engine.
:D
