Hi MS readers, I have bought 2009 edition of Hero Honda Achiever with new ATFT engine on 20.008.2009 from Messrs. Balaji Motors in Kolkata.Previously I owned a HH Passion pro and you can read my review in https://mouthshut.com/review/Hero_Honda_Passion_Pro-169362-1.html.I sold this bike within 4.5 months to buy this new bike.Till date I have ridden 250kms. on my new Achiever and here is a short review of the bike.

1) This bike has traditional make and build which makes me comfortable specially during parking it and handling the bike while standing/walking with the bike. Also, making the bike stand on it’s center stand is a breeze-thanks to HH as I had troubles making my Passion pro stand on its center stand.

2) The bike’s seat is a totally flat one unlike any other 150cc bike. This is a family bike as I can easily carry 3 family members without hiccup. Also, seat is comfy and gives no backache even after a full day drive.

3)The best part of this bike is the engine. It is so smooooooooth-like a butter. The gears are very spot on and not at all tachy unlike my previous bike. The 1down 4 up pattern is very user friendly and I got used up in just 4km drive from The showroom to my home. The neutral is very easy to find-but sometimes slip between 1st and 2nd gear as it is very sleek.

4)Such is the refinement of the engine that I get hardly any sound in 4th or 5th gear during my travel. Also, I had to look at my rpm/speedometer to guess if bike’s engine is on during my city ride. The bike can pull effortlessly from nearly 18kmph to top speed in 5th gear without any trouble-excellent low end torque that I proudly enjoy at all gearing conditions.

5)I am getting excellent mileage between 55 to 58 kmpl during city ride-mostly in 3rd to 4th and seldom 5th gear here in Kolkata and upto 50 kmph.I am yet to test in the highways and will update it in near future.I am using Power petrol from HP bunkers.Any other suggestion from other MS members?

6)The riding quality is excellent with very good cornering and manovering quality of this bike. The ride feels feather light inspite of 138 kg kerb weight of the bike.Though this bike has the most skinny rear tyre in 150cc category, it never skids or give statability issue. This is probably the cause for excellent mileage of the bike-but I wish for a more fatty one specially in the rear for my own safety. The bike is very well balanced.

7)The head light is excellent-35/35w halogen that does it’s job well in the city.Wish for 55/60w to make this bike a complete one.

8)The acceleration is also very good-but I love my baby and I seldom race and remain within 40-50 kmph/3k rpm during my first 500-750 km run-in period. The front disc brake is crisp and spot on and gives confidence.Rear drum brake is so so.Felt the need of a rear disc brake.
