Confessions About a Weight-loss Program

Years ago, when I tipped the quintal mark, I realized that it was time to shed some pounds. For a start, I went through various weight-loss books, websites and even contemplated on joining a weight loss program. But I knew that all this wouldn’t work because on for major drawback that I had –“I LOVED EATING.”

There were two rules that guided my food habits:

Rule 1.) Eat when you FEEL hungry

Rule 2.) When you eat, eat to your heart’s content. Otherwise, don’t.

The problem was that the ‘heart’s content’ factor was variable and whenever I got a chance to eat, regardless of the quantity, I felt the content in my heart.

This had to stop!

So in the year 2005, I hanged the previous two rules and made two new rules as resolutions for the year.

Rule 1.) Eat ONLY when you ARE hungry.

Rule 2.) Do not eat alone. *

The year started with a desperate search for people to have lunch and dinner with. Just few weeks through the year, I realized that my resolutions were already history. To save whatever was left, I made a corollary to the rules, which said

Corollary 1.) Make tall promises in front of your colleagues and friends that “you are on diet” *

With an ego bigger than myself, I thought this would help me to reduce my food. And yes, it helped! I almost stopped eating in front of others, but then… I ended up eating double when I was hungry.(Rule 1). Obviously, I had problems with Rule 2 also.

“WHAT IF YOU ARE HUNGRY WHEN YOU ARE ALONE?'

So I made another corollary to the rules.

Corollary 2.)Eat only Veg food when you are alone and hungry.

The corollary was certainly a relief but I didn’t know any Veg restaurants. Moreover, for a Non-veg specialist like me, it was difficult to order Veg food in a Non-veg restaurant.

By the time, thankfully, I has lost some weight, though a far-cry from what I intended to. So I said to myself:

”Enough weight – loss for this year, keep something for next year.!”

My resolutions were thus officially history. As a consolation, I still believe in the two basic rules for weight-loss.*

Rule 1.) Eat ONLY when you ARE hungry.

Rule 2.) Do not eat alone. *

But yes, believing is one thing and following it is entirely another.
