I Lost Two Hundred Pounds UPDATED WITH MORE TIPS
Aug 07, 2001 06:37 AM 5848 Views

When I read Rosie review and I knew I had to leave my opinion.  First Rosie good job on losing sixty pounds.  My top weight was three hundred pounds and the doctor told me I would die in one year if I did not start to lose weight.  I was twenty-five years old and had two young children to raise. I had tried diets before and just gained it back and then some.  So with my doctor helping me I found the easiest diet in the world.  I was told I should market it and I make a lot of money but I want to see people healthy and happy.

First step to losing weight is to change ones way of thinking.  You are losing weight to be healthy and happy not model skinny and sexy.  You have to think healthy not skinny and it makes it easier to lose weight.  After all we are not wanting hip bones to stick out but to be healthy.

Second Step is four to six weeks before you start the diet keep a diary of everything you eat, even the nibbles and sips, and how much you gain for that date.  The days you gain compare what you ate on those days and you will see a pattern of the same foods.  Those foods you should avoid all together.  Each persons chemistry is different and there are different foods that make each individual person fat.  You have to though trial and error find those foods.  I do not eat anything fried or anything with white flour at all or I will gain weight like crazy.  I can eat all the sweets I want as I have low sugar so I do not gain weight.

Now your way of thinking has changed and you know what foods will make you fat it is time to start the diet.

Third step is to change your eating habits.  It is okay to have French fries but in moderation, it is okay to have fried chicken but in moderation.  Do NOT deny yourself any foods that you love, just do it in moderation.

Most of the time you should be avoiding anything fried, lard, cooking oil, real butter, ( I Can't Believe It's Butter is the best low fat butter on the market, and I know I have tried them all), high fat cheese's, cream cheese, white flour, white sugar, and certain fruits and vegetables.  Corn and grapes are high in starch.

Eat wheat flour this includes breads, spaghetti noodles, macaroni, and pancakes.  Use brown sugar or my favorite honey.  Bake, broil, or boil anything you eat.  I prefer boil chicken and bake fish.  Fish is very good for you but tuna in a can soaked in oil is not good instead go for the water tuna.

Eating mostly fresh vegetables and fruits are the best food for you but if you must have meat eat grain fed chicken and fish.

Do not attempt to cut your food back the first week, do it gradually.  As you slowly started to over eat your stomach stretched and become bigger and required more food to feel full, now you must eat less  so your stomach will return to normal size.  It took me two weeks before this happen.  For breakfast I  use to eat  six fried eggs, 1/2 pound of bacon, 5 pieces of toast with butter and jelly, four cups of coffee with sugar and cream.  Now I am lucky if I can eat a whole banana.

I have learn not to eat three times a day, but to take what I eat three times a day and eat it six times a day.

Example Breakfast 8 AM one banana, 10 AM one bran muffin, 12 PM half of a turkey ham sandwich with lite mayo and tomato, 2 PM 1/2 cup of soup, 5 PM bake chicken, salad with tomato and lettuce, olive oil and vinegar dressing, 8 PM 1/2 cup of ice cream, this way I actual eat three times a day but I have my body fooled into thinking it is eating all day.  This is important to me as I live with Manic depression and I eat for all kind of reasons but not for good ones.  So I fool the mind and body and the spirit is still happy.

Fourth step is exercise, exercise, and exercise.  Start out slowly and gradually increase.  Because of my age and disability I do Yoga, Water Exercise in the pool, and I walk.  I also do a lot of stretch type exercise and when my doctor release me I am going to start weight training again.  This is very good if you have arthritis as it builds muscles which strengthen the bones.

When I first started to exercise I could not even make it to the mail box so it takes time.

Exercise at least three times a week.  It does not matter what kind you chose as long as you do it, it helps the body to be stronger, lose weight or keep weight at a healthy level, and helps the mind to think clearly, you sleep better and feel better.  You have more energy if you exercise then if you do not.

With the right frame of mind, learning what food makes one fat, learning to eat a whole new of way, not a diet which we all hate doing, but a new way of eating, and exercise you will lose weight, feel stronger and healthy.

Make your meals more colorful. Fruits and vegetables, low in fat, that are red, yellow, green or orange have different nutritional benefits. Grapes and berries are rich in substances that prevent cancer and heart disease.

Eat foods that high in calcium. It is what builds our bones and you need at least 1, 000 milligrams each day. Low-fat, or fat free yogurt, cheese, and milk are good sources.

Fiber will lower cholesterol. Each meal should have fiber as part of the meal. Legumes such as beans, lentils and chickpeas are low in fat but high in fiber, folic acid and protein. Whole-grain breads, cereal and wheat pasta are high in fiber.

Water, drink plenty of it. It fills you up and makes you feel full. It also flushes fat and other toxins from the body. Try to drink at least six to eight glasses a day.

Some fats are healthy and will help reduce the level of bad cholesterol levels in your body. Salmon and tuna are rich in healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Other good healthy fats are nuts, sunflower seeds, avocados, olives and extra virgin olive oil.
