Last month after giving lots of thought about which pressure cooker to buy, we finally decided thats its time to pamper ourselves with a Futura Pressure Cooker. My mom had bought this cooker the same year it was launched...i dont remember the year but it must have been 7-8 yrs atleast. And I must say that it had been the most reliable pressure cooker that she had in her inventory. Till date I dont remember taking that cooker for a repair or replacement of gasket or any other part. Armed with this kind of impression about this cooker, I convinced my wife also that this piece of innovation by hawkins is worth the price. So one fine day we went out and bought this black beauty for our kitchen also. It set us back by arnd 2500 for a 5 lt cooker. Initially my wife was not impressed by the cooker...only difference that she found was the wistle..and she felt that it was little too much to pay just for the looks of the cooker. But all changed the moment she started using the black beauty. Ofcource the first time she cooked, the dal was overcooked coz it takes little less than 5 mins in this cooker and she is used to atleast 15 mins of cookin dal in a normal cooker. But since then she has not stoped praising the black beauty. Rajma gets cooked in 10 mins as compared to 25 mins of normal cooker. Kabuli channa 15 mins...and all sorts of other statasical figures keep comin out of her mouth after every use of this cooker.

Its been only a month since we have been using this cooker, but I am sure that it will give us never ending service as the one that my mom had been getting from her futura.

Ok...now to summarize..

  1. Futura in general takes about 1/2 the time to cook when compared to other normal cookers.(Varies with stuff u r cooking and the amt of stuff)

  2. Looks elegent.

  3. Uses relatively less oil(about 20% less)

  4. Do not wait for the wistle. Count the wistle from the moment the steam starts comin out.

  5. Costs a little more than the normal cooker....but the costs can be recovered easily in abt a yr time in form of the cooking gas saved.

  6. Very low maintainence.

  7. Genuine spare parts are little costly, but then you wont be needing them often.

  8. Clean with mild soap water only...dont apply the hard steelwhool scrub as it will scratch the surface.

Hope this will help u decide better
