I love my cats and here is a tip on hairball medic
Sep 27, 2001 10:18 AM 4180 Views

We have always had cats in our home.  Cats are independent creatures but somehow know when we need them.  We have 5 in our home and I would not trade any of them.  They are an awful lot of company and individuals each one!  They talk to us in their way and we are supposed to understand them.  Sometimes I just open a can or two or tuna and let them'have at it' and all is well!

Sometimes our cats get hairballs.  If you own a cat you know how ugly a hairball can be and preventing them is a great idea!  No more messy hairballs for me!  I hope you find my review helpful.  This medicine has certainly made our home a it more hairball free!

Hartz Salmon Flavored Hairball Remedy works wonders on a coughing cat!

We are the proud owners of 5 cats.  We had 6 but had to put her to sleep.  She had a brain tumor.  We have her mom, sister and two brothers.  We also have another kitty the kids found walking down the road!  So I can safely say we had had our fair share of hairballs in our home.

We have found the worst times are in the fall and the spring.  This is the time cats as well as most animals shed their summer coats for winter and their winter coats for spring.  You will always find a tube or two lying around the house.

The tubes are 3 ounces each.  They are about 5 inches high and an inch and a half across.  The tube has a very bright orange top so it is easy to find if you think you have lost it!  The treatment is for cats, kitten or rabbits.  As the cats or rabbits clean themselves by licking, they swallow their hair.  This in turn gets caught up in the intestines.  Since the hair is basically indigestible, it forms a “ball” in the intestine.  This gets in the way of normal digestion and bathroom function.  Some signs of hairball trouble are constipation or trouble going to the bathroom.  The most common sign is throwing up of the hairballs.  Most of the time this occurs right after the animal has tried to eat.  Sometimes your pet may also have a very dry or hacking cough.  This is a scary sound coming from such a tiny animal.  I have never seen the hair come out in a “ball” form.  It is about an inch or two long, about as round as your pinkie and smelly.  Hairballs are no fun to clean up and they are certainly hard on the animal.

We have found that if we use the Hartz Salmon Flavored Hairball Remedy once a week the hairballs are virtually a thing of the past.  Along with the use of the hairball medicine you should include a weekly bath(two weeks max) and a daily brushing.  This helps to take off an awful lot of excess hair that the cat will not have the chance to eat him or herself.  The directions for use are as follows:

To eliminate hairballs: For adult cats and rabbits feed a once-inch ribbon of Health Measures Hairball Remedy daily until symptoms disappear.  Give between meals, either on your finger or by placing the medicine on the front paws so it can be licked off.  Cats almost hate anything on their feet.  This works well with a cat that tries to throw up the medicine.  He won’t take more than about 4 steps before he begins to lick his feet.  It is amazing!

To prevent hairballs: Feed adult cats or rabbits a one-inch ribbon of Health Measures Hairball Remedy once or twice a wee and brush frequently.  For young rabbits and kittens over four weeks of age, give a half-inch ribbon once or twice a week.

Health Measures Hairball Remedy is an emulsion of malt extract, liquid petrolatum, glycerine, natural salmon flavor, acacia and Vitamin B 1(Thiamine HCI)

Please keep this medicine away from children.  This medicine must also be stored at room temperature.  We put it in the frig one time and it was really hard to squeeze it out of the tube.

This medicine is made by The Hartz Corporation, Secaucus, NJ 07094 and St. Thomas, Ontario N5P 3W7, Canada.  The container says it is made and printed in the USA.
