One foolish friend of mine one bad evening when I sought his guidance for a good internet service provider, he suggested Hathway. Once stuck with it's service there is no way of even dreaming of a better speed or better service back up which I understood after a few months. People used to say private operators are good compared to government operators. But once I took the hathway internet connection, I gradually started to understand that HATHWAY is born in india to prove us wrong. It's service proved acclaimed private operators also could be very much poorer than government services and on the contrary if one such internet service is there on the earth definitely people will start looking towards government enterprises in future. There is no doubt about it.


In April 2005, I unsubscribed from Hathway internet services. The simple reason for this was I had opted for 256 speed; they said though you are under this plan we would definitely be providing you 70%-80% of the above promised speed at least. Beginning 4-5 months were somewhat okay. But as I became an old customer, their true colors in terms of service started to unfurl. The speed of internet most of the times was even far far slower than dial-up internet. Nearly for 3-4 months everyday, I used to make calls to their call center. Sometimes call center employees did not pass on my complaint. When I was working on internet at the middle of the night (as most of the times used to be problems with Hathway internet), Seldom call center employees picked up the phones. Even if they picked up the phones and by fluke passed my complaint to the concerned department of Hathway, perfect fixing of problems was a mirage. I was dependant on Internet connection 100% for my bread and butter. So, I made loss because of their negligent service enormously. The loss I incurred ran for months together. Whenever I spoke with Hathway there were just eye-wash replies and gimmicks and temporary measures. Finally, Around April 2005, I decided to bid good bye to Hathway and unsubsribed from their internet services. The modem which I had taken on rental basis was also returned to their staff who came and collected it around May 2005 (They call it in their language as Modem Pull-Back). That ritual was also over. Now came the final ceremony of returning the subscriber of his deposit money. That I have shot them letters and phoned them since then. There only MANTRA is "Once it is okayed at Mumbai you would be getting back your deposit amount" when that day would come?? I do not know.


I have understood one thing. Now, I have BSNL broadband and I am really satisfied with it. I think once upon a time we used to say private operators are best and government service is poor. Now my feeling is government services are better compared to them. Once the whole country comes under private monopoly, then we might start feeling the pinch from Hathway-like people who made my reputation with my employers miserable and gave me sleepless days and nights. I had to shell out nearing 200 rupees monthly at least, towards telephone calls that I made to them monthly seeking rectification of the internet speed. I incurred losses financially as I could not reach my targets in terms of my work because of deficient service of hathway. Finally, after giving its customer such a hardship Hathway does not have least manners or courtesy to refund the Deposit Amount back to me till date.


My humble request or suggestion whatever you call to any customer/consumer is BEWARE of such companies and dont just be carried away by their parrot talk or advertisements.
