I have completed two books and going to start the third of the HArry Potter Books. He is now as famous of a hero as Superman and Batman. I liked the books. They are flight of fantasy, good, imaginative and feeds the kid in you. I am going to go through all the seven books as they come. When I went to see the movie, I have not read the book. I went to see Lord of the Ring also. I have not read the book there also, but I heard a bit here and there in both cases. I disliked Lord of rings, but on the contradictory I liked Harry Potter, and decided to read the book also. The reasons are obvious, atleast to me.
when you convert a book to a mopvie, you need a screen play, an imagination which matches to the expectations of the viewer. Special effects are no longer a new thing. You will find them in B grade movies also. So you have to create the magic in a whole. The screen play should be crisp and should not bore the audience. Here comes the need of the addition and deduction in the original book. This is the place where lord of ring fails. Harry Potter does well in this section. Director has been succesful in doing, he has not curtailed any important scene, and still manages to create and say what is needed.Chris Columbus is the screen writer of the movie Germlins,he directed Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire and he did another good work for Harry Potter.
Characters are a big time fit. Every character is as described in the book. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Ron (Rupert Grint), Hermione ( Emma Watson), they all just fit in. This brings the things to life.
Faces say all, no extra attempts to show the inner feelings of the character by a voice from behind or anything. He created the atmosphere and rest left to the audience.
Enough of this technical stuff. I am talking of a moie which brings back the kid in you. You feel like believing in magic again. All those broomsticks make you feel, if I could be one of the Wizards/witch.
The story unfolds with a small kid troubled by his aunt and uncle. Harry has lost his parents and has no choice but to leave with his Uncle. Hos uncle and family are Muggals (a term used in book for non magical person). But Harry also is not aware of the powers he has. He is a wizard but he came to know of it on his eleventh birthday. He find himself talking to a snake. He gets an invitation from Hogwrad ''the School of Magic''. After joining in the school, he finds out that he is famous and has survied a dark power, when he was just one year old. Restis just magical. You are transported in world diffreent from those of us Muggals. Everything there is magical. The most famous game is Quildich which is a magical version of american Footbal. It is played on Broomsticks. The broomstick have versions like Windows. The latest version of broomstick is Nimbus 2000, the fastest broomstick. Magic wands, potions, dragon and lovable character Hagrid. Images do not stay in photographs, they keep on coming and going. Chocolate frogs are as good as alive frogs but are still eaten. The platform where you have to take the train is 9 and 3/4. Above all see that magnificent bird (white horned owl), which is means of communication.
See it and feel it. Wish, you are no longer a muggal. Meet the friends of Harry, Ron (a read headed funny boy), Hermione (know it all smart girl, who is too smart to talk with) and Hagrid (gigantic guy who was expelled from school and now work as a menial worker in the school of magic).
The movie is like a magic potion, will make you hipnotised. I am waiting for the next. This time I have already completed the book
