I have seen a lot of side comments about this movie, most of them my age, most of them comments that harry potter fans prefer not to know or read about.
for me anyway, the film has justified the plot, considering it was only an adaptation. We cannot expect for it to compress ALL events from the book to the movie otherwise viewers would end up white-eyed, staring at the film for hours. It is wise to think that the book itself was pretty thick - the previous three books were comparably composed of lesser pages, but still the film wasn't able to sandwich everything in, considering that the movie lasted for more than 2 hours. It is wiser still to think of the movie as something separate to the book - we are not filmmakers, and I guess they have their own reasons for doing it that way, in which we innocent to those stuff couldn't possibly understand. The fil was not created anyway to let us readers compare as to whether they did give justice to the book or what have we.
next, for those who really cannot accept the nature of HP's plot, please understand that this thing was written, and adapted, for children. If I were to put myself in an 7-8 year old's shoe, I would pretty much enjoy watching it, considering the effects and everything else that Goblet of Fire had offered. It was indeed better than the previous three, because there was a balance with outdoor and indoor scenes, there was greater emphasis on the wizarding world (they did not use muggle stuffs like goggles), and eventhough not all were there, atleast the significant scenes were shown.
Of all the directors, Mike Newell had given a taste of maturity to the film. I'm pretty certain kids enjoyed them with awe in their faces with all the dragons, the maze, arena, waterworld, the mozaic-in-motion on the walls, and many others . Well, the world cup was kinda hanging (I would've wanted to view the entire event -hehehe) and veelas did not look exactly like veelas, and Viktor Krum had a face. Rita Skeeter was perfect, Madamme Maxime was a little taller than Hagrid, Moody's acting was convincing, Dumbledore still looked much energetic than he was supposed to be, and the mermaids did not look like how I envisaged them to be.
