I just finished Harry Potter and
the Deathly Hallows a couple of days ago. And I guess it was a good read ‘cos
flashes from the book are still lingering in my mind. Nevertheless, I still
wanted to put down the experience in words. Which is what this is – a recount
of my experience, and not a review. No real spoilers ahead, so you can read
this even if you haven’t got your hands on a copy yet!
As many Potter-maniacs may know
have already commented, each story in the Harry Potter series gets darker, the
threats get bigger, Voldemort gets more powerful and the odds get more and more
against the protagonist. And to say that the last and final book is dark, would
be an understatement. Suffice to say that I got a bout of gooseflesh every time
someone was killed, and that happened every 10-15 pages (gulp!)
Unputdownable at first, the book
gets heavier (no not in the hand silly!) as the story gets more and more gory
(yes that IS the word) and it becomes increasingly difficult to read more than
3-4 chapters at a stretch.
All in all, the book ran like a
complicated film in front of my eyes, BUT sadly, Harry Potter and the Deathly
Hallows ends like a Bollywood potboiler from the 70's. The end is a let down
after a thrilling series that kept readers spellbound (pun intended) for ten
long years. Don't even get me started on the ‘clichéd as hell’ epilogue.
Most people seem to have loved
the book. I think I'm going to read it a second time. Maybe that'll clear up a
lot of the muddle in my ordinary Muggle mind ;-).
