Most of us may not know that it was somewhere in the proximity of this beach that the RDX used for the Bombay Bomb blasts in 1993 landed. To approach the beach you have to turn west at Mangaon on the Bombay to Goa NH 17 about 2-3 hours drive from Bombay.
On the way you pass Mhasla - once again famous because a local migrant from here won the British Lottery a few years ago. If at all you plan to visit this part of the coast, please take some time out to drive to Srivardhan and north upto Nanvel village and slightly beyond. I would rate this as one of the most spectacular coastal roads close to Bombay. The road, in excellent condition, at times passes close to the sea, sometimes climbing up and then coming down to the sea once again at most places along this stretch.
Just before Nanvel village, get down for some great views of the Arabian sea and the lighthouse of Nanvel situated on a rocky promontory jutting out into the sea. Further down and you will get a glimpse of the Murud Janjira fort fron the southern side.
For those on two wheelers who wish to return to Bombay quickly you can take the ferry across the Rajpuri creek from Dighi and be back in a flash.
