We visited Harihareshwar on 4th March 2006. To me it is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. The beauty of the place is the serenity and lack of commercialization unlike tourist hotspots like Goa, Kovalam etc.
The MTDC resort has got an attached private beach which is small but one can enjoy speed boat ride from here! The huts here are very strategically located and the view of the sea through the greens is a refreshing sight for mind and soul.
Be aware that AC won’t be operational from 10:00AM in the morning for couple of hours due to the famous Power Cut schedule. At night we had the comforts of the cool rooms through. In Harihareshwar mobile network was unavailable which made the stay all the more adventurous. The number of ants in these huts are bit alarming so check the beds before you throw your tired bodies for sleep. A li’l bit of extra maintenance will make this resort more alluring.
The temple of Harihareshwar is a must visit. The “parikrama” is something that no one should ever miss. When we descended down the rocky stairs at around 5:30PM in the evening we landed straight into the rocky sea. The sight is simply stunning – the red ball is about to plunge inside the blue roaring Arabian ocean. Everywhere you sea stones and the various designs traced by the restless sea waters is something you can watch for hours.
We could trace a skull , honeycombs,a jumpy Frog and even a Britisher wearing hat and smoking his cigar in the rocks. Give it a try and you shall be amazed by the imagination that nature can trigger in you. The rocky shores merges into the sandy beach. Due to the rock particles being mixed into the sand , the beach is black in colour.
Next day we went to Sri Vardhan via Bagmandala. This beach is also very nice. The sea is rough but charming.Lovely food at a hotel named Kalaprasad Guest Park (9850182065). This road side hotel is just in front of the Shri Laxminarayan Temple . The hot chapatis and yummy fish curry made us vibrant.
We also visited the temple.This we gathered is the main temple of Peshwas. The idol in the temple is quite old and said to be of Hoyasal style. We thought the idol looked bit angry but then again Gods must be annoyed by the way, things that are going at our end , that explains the angry eyes. A lovely drive through the scenic roads back to Pune spelled the end of a weekend trip. It was short but is to stay in the memory for a long time.
