Haridwar a beautiful and ancient city of India. The city falls in the state of Uttarakhand, situated on banks of Holy River Ganga.


The Haridwar is said to be one of the most ancient and heritage city in terms of worship and beliefs in God and religion's practices of Hindus. It is said that the Hold River Ganga flows for about 253 KM's starting from its origination source of Gaumukh from the edge of Gangotri Glaciour and from their it enters the North India throught the first city which is Haridwar. The city of Haridwar was earlier known as “Gangadwara” as because of this entrance of Holy River Ganga.


Haridwar is a very small city of the state of uttarakhand with the square area of about 12.3 km's at an elation of 314m. The city is said to have people with a total population of about 310, 600 citizens. It is considered as one of the top seven places of India in terms of Holy city.


As the city is very much religious, so there is a lot to know about the temples and ghats of the city. Lets Know about all those in brief, it has many ghats and relegious temples and smost of them are listed below -


Starting with the most important, "The Ganga Aarti of Haridwar", this is the most valuable or priceless part of Haridwar, it is said that people use to start gathering since 3 Am in the morning to see the Ganga Aarti, it is conducted two times in a day, one at the morning time and one at the evening time. The atmosphere of the Aarti is really very spiritual and relegious. The Crowd gathers on a very large level everyday to see the Ganga Aarti still there is much lot space to see the event of Aarti very clearly. The River Ganga looks to be more beautiful at the evening time as its full of ligtining Diya's, also the place is very clean as its heritage site for the visitors who believe on Holy Places and worships.


When talking about the ghats, the most popular is "Har Ki Pauri" of Haridwar.


The most famous ghat of Haridwar situated on the banks of Holy River, Maa Ganga.


"Har Ki Pauri" comprises of three, the first word "Har" whihch means Lord Shiva, the second word "KI" which means "of" and the third word "Pauri" which means Steps. The three words comprises to make a single sentence'Steps of Lord Shiva', this is said because it is believed that Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu have visited this place in the Vedic Times, as stated by the Hindu Rituals Books. The words are more confirmed as reality as there is a foot print on the stone wall which is said to be of "Lord Vishnu".


It is belief of taking religious baths over there o the ghats and the best time for visiting the place is the evening time as its full of lighting of Diya's.


Coming on to the next, one of the most religious temple of Haridwar, Chandi Devi Temple.


The temple is dedicated to the goddess of Hindu Religion, Chandi Devi. The temple is situated at the very beautiful place of Neel Parvat on the top on the eastern summit of Sivalik Hills. The temple is said to be built in 1929 by the king of Kashmir, Suchat Singh. However it is said that the main Statue of the Goddess was installed over there in the 8th century by Adi Shankracharya who is said to be one of the greatest priest of the Hindu's.


The next in the category comes the, Mansa Devi Temple.


The name of the temple itself denotes the name of the goddess, Goddess Mansa devi. The temple is located at the top of Bilwa parvat on the Sivalik Hills on the southernmost mountain chain of Himalayas.


The Temple is also known as "Panch Tirth".


Another temple is, Daksheswara Mahadev Temple. The Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is situated at the town of Kankhal, this place is about 4 KM's from Haridwar. The temple is named after he name of the King, Daksha Prajapati who was the father of Sati Daksha. The temple was said to be built in 1810 by the Queen Dhankaur. The Temple was re-constructed in 1962.


The next is the Bharat Mata Temple. The Bharat Mata Temple or Mother India is a temple dedicated to her by devoted patriotic nationals. The Bharat Mata temple is a religious shrine, founded by Swami Satyamitranand Giri. This temple was inaugurated by Late Prime Minister, Smt Indira Gandhi, in the year 1983.


Another one is "Vishwakalyan Sadhanayatan Temple" or "Shri Yantra Mandir", another relegious temple located on the river banks of Holy Ganga. This is said to be a heaven place for the devotees and religious people. The temple was founded in 1991 by Nirvana Pithadhishwar Achharya Mahamandeleshwar Swami Shri Vishwadevanand Ji. Te temple has a very big ashram of its own. The temple is based on the belief of Shri yatra, shri Yantra is a diagram formed by inter-locking  nine triangles that surrounds and radiates out from the central point.


Another historic place is the "Pawan Dham Temple", this is not only a temple but also a non-profitable trust. It was founded in 1970.


A ghat of Haridwar: Gau Ghat, One of the most sacred ghats of Haridwar is the Gau Ghat. It is said that a dip in Ganga River on this Ghat makes you feel free from all the burdens of life and makes you feel free. It is a belief of the ghat to offer solace to  to those who have lost their near and dear ones. Offering of rose petals and coconuts ensure peace to the souls of ancestors. Another very un-common fact known to people taht the ashes of the some great people of Indian were immersed in the Holy Ganga water on this ghat. those Historic people were Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.


The last but not the least is the Bhuma Niketan Temple, this temple is said to follow the ideologies of Shri Adi Shankracharya which was founded by Swami Shri Bhumananadna Teerth Ji.


A Last thing to inform is that all means road means transport and railways are connected to this holy city from all parts of India, however as this place is small, so there is no facility of Airports.
