I am generally fond of eating places in Mumbai for their amazing food and almost unbeatable service.. I love it here..!! I am in India for a short vacation and wanted to try Hard Rock Cafe for obvious reasons.. Was excited through out the day about the place..
We reached (4 of us) at about 10.30 PM on a Wednesday night to the swanky South Mumbai Hard Rock Cafe.. the place is done well and we had few drinks at the bar before we got a place to sit. Actually, the place looked more like a restaurant than like any typical HRC..
Little did we know that we are about to have a (literal) hell of an experience once we sit down at the table. We ordered for some onion rings as part of starters.. We really had to chew hard and so called the waiter to change it.
The moment we said the Onion Rings are not nice, the waiter was helpful enough to tell us that "they must be hard to eat and we will change them" We were impressed by his ability to sense what was wrong than getting irritated with him as he served them though he knew that they were not right!!The same was the case with the Tender Chicken starters..
Nothing was tender and we almost had to sharpen our table knives to dig into them ;) Then one of my friend was looking at one of the only imported beers they are serving (i guess it is Italian) was dated Mar 2008. Bad food is ok to some extent with me but beer has to be fresh and since we are in Jan 2009, more than 10 months old beer was not acceptable at all.
But to our luck we had an amazingly literate General Manager on the floor (I guess Dhiraj was the name, beware of him) who kept on arguing that beer will never expire and I was almost sure that if its up to him he will age it to five years and serve us. We generally don't drink beer more than three months old, and almost an year is unimaginable and If any one of you can beat him with his logic of 'beer does not expire', please let me know :)
But we all appreciated his generosity as he offered us to use his internet to prove him wrong after arguing for 20 min and thoroughly ruining the dining experience..BTW, we also sent back the Paneer as it was hard too, and some other stuff as well.
The only Silver lining is that they only charged us for one of the two 'aged' beers we had, as we did not dare to drink the second one and also offered a complimentary Chocolate cake, which we all had a spoon each and left it away (Three girls having just a spoon of chocolate and leaving the rest, is a great testimony to how worse / stale the cake could be) If you have got the drift, save your precious time and go to Shack or Toto's for music and experience. Skip this place if you like your time and wallet (and your health !!)!!
