Happy ( Diana Penty) is a cheerful and headstrong Amritsari kudi, whose papaji ( Kanwaljit Singh) has planned to get her hitched to local corporator Daman Singh Bagga ( Jimmy Shergill) . But Happy would rather be happy with college mate and unemployed musician Guddu ( Ali Fazal) , so the two plot her escape from the shaadi mandap.

When plans go awry, Happy lands up in a basket of chikoos — a diplomatic gift for Lahore's ex-governor Javed Ahmed ( Javed Sheikh) . When the package is delivered to Lahore, she's discovered by the politician's son, Bilaal ( Abhay Deol) who instantly threatens to deport her.

But since this would seal her marital fate, Happy contests. Meanwhile, Happy's presence isn't too welcome for Bilaal's fiance, Zoya ( Momal Sheikh) who finds her story to be an elaborate ruse. But with time and Ahmed's hospitality, Happy bonds with Zoya, while Bilaal is drawn to her too, resulting in much conflict. Things get very sticky when Bagga, Guddu and Papaji land up in Lahore. How this goes down is anyone's guess but it's a fun ride to sit through.

Portraying the eponymous Happy, Diana Penty has come a long way from being the stirrer in Cocktail. While her eyes are yet to exhibit a range of emotions, she flaunts enough spunk to suggest that she could be a Deepika Padukone-in-the-making.

Returning to the big screen after long ( assuming we erase One By Two from memory) , Abhay Deol's restrained performance is laced with light humour and is reminiscent of his initial films like Socha Na Tha and Ahista Ahista. Jimmy Shergill's comic timing is spot-on and he seems to have finally found his space in Hindi films. Thumping his feet rhythmically to Yaara O Yaara ( Jeet) , he channels his inner Sunny Deol with much determination and decided lack of flair.

Ali Fazal gets a great platform to establish himself as an actor here and is promising. From the supporting cast, Piyush Mishra, essaying a sceptical cop is a fun addition and the Hindi interpretations of his Urdu words are hilarious — 'mausiqi' is taken to be an expletive involving a 'mausi'.
