Handling Depression

  • Depression is rapidly spreading(like epidemic) among urban populations in major cities. This is a cause of worry; because mostly such people eat wrong types of food and put on weight! They feel better after consuming very sweet; deep fried fast food or taking sugary and thick milky tea or coffee. All these add to their weight and slowly they become “Obese”.

On top of that they suffer from “Nutritional deficiencies “; particularly IRON; VITAMIN-C; and Minerals like Calcium; Magnesium; Copper and Potassium!

Menopause- when a woman is heading for menopause hormonal changes in body lead to hot flushes; irritability; feeling of insecurity all these lead to Depression! Modern HRT help them fight depression. Soya food also help this.

PMS—Premenstrual tension-is also associated with it. Vitamin-B 6 helps to fight depression.

Reactive depression- This is often followed by sudden loss of near and dear one in family circle. Anti-Depression medicines(mostly monoamine oxidase) are given; but simultaneous use of alcohol; too much coffee should be avoided.

Here I will give more importance to food intake to treat Depression naturally. Eating plenty—Whole grains; peas; lentils; Fresh fruits; and freshly cut vegetables; Fish.

Avoid- Alcohol; too much coffe; Tinned and canned food particularly Non-vegeterian food. Cheese.

Meditation; Yoga, – Help a lot of people. One must try it.

Mild exercise like brisk walking not only elevates your mood but also controls your weight.
