Hampi is place where the Indian Architecture has reached the Sumit. It was the capital city of Vijayanagar Empire which is known for its Splender and Prosparity in 13th century. Dimonds and other precious stone where sold in an open market and footpaths. It attended its maximum glory during the period of Krishna Deva Raya. It has many temples most of them are ruins now. The idols carved by Jakanachari known as ''Amara Shilpi jakanachari'' should not be missed there. The Tungabhadra river flows through Hampi, on the banks of which, it is said, the Goddess Hampi (Parvati) attained Lord Shiva. This city was praised by historians like, Nuniz and Paes, as being greater than Rome, its palaces plated with jewel-encrusted gold, simply the 'bets provided city in the world'. The Virupaksha Temple is one of the best temple there which also has the world famous Stone Chariot. The city was turned into ruins by Bahamani Sultans who looted the wealth and descreated many of the idols and buildings.
