This is the love story of a Bihari boy named Madhav and a eich Delhi girl, Riya. The story starts from the St. Stephens Campus in Delhi where these two are doing their graduation. Madhav gets selected to the college in sports quota( Basketball) . During the girls basketball trial he sees Riya for the first time and it was the magic moment for him.l, love at first site. Chetan Bhagat describes this moment in a magical way that it can give you butterglies in your stomach. The rest of the story, in St. Stephens Madhav gets to know Riya. He impresses her with his basketball game, both of them become fast friends. Madhav wanted Riya to be his girlfriend but Riya do not want a relationship. The way she behaves with him was the reason that even she would be interested. So after a lot of drama Riya agrees to be Madhav's Half girlfriend: More than a friend but less than a girlfriend. This go on in this way for some years in St. Stephens until one day Riya shoves her wedding card to Madhav. She was getting married to her childhood friend, Rohan. Madhav is heart broken. He even rejects a job in a multinational company and goes back to Bihar.
Scene 2: Bihar
Madhav was born in a royal family but due to his ancestors wretched way of gambling they lost everything. His family owned a school and he started working for his school. His school gets a chance to welcome Bill Gates during his India tour and he has one shot at grabbing the Gate's development fund for the development of hus school. It is during preparations of these that he sees Riya again in Patna. Again they cime close to each other. Riya helps him in learning English so that he can impress Bill Gates with an amazing speech during his visit. On the D day, Madhav does impress Mr. Gates and recieves the foundation. But when he has won and he wants to tell the giid news to Riya she has again left him and left him a note that she is suffering from a incurable disease and she is going to die.
Scene 3: United States of America
Madhav refuses to believe that Riya is dead and bases on her dream of singing that she had mentioned about long time back he went in search of her in USA. He applies for an internship programme and is trying very hard to find her. Will he find her? Is she dead?
