Got my HTC wildire around 2 months back and I must say it' really an excellent product in all terms. At first I was thinking of buying either a Sony X10 mini or X8 or HTC Wildire. I dropped out of X10 and X8 because Sony doesnt think of updating them to the latest Android versions.

When I was out shopping in November, X10 still had version 1.6 of Android while the rest of the handsets were trying to move to 2.2 from 2.1. HTC Wildire had 2.1 (Eclair) when I purchased and got 2.2 (Froyo) a couple of weeks ago. This proves that HTC thinks about its customers even after selling the product and not just about selling the product and forgetting about them!

I was first apprehensive about buying this because of various comments circulating about the display clarity. To be frank it's certainly not excellent (has a QVGA display) but is definitely ok and in fact good. Has relatively good display even under sun. The other main feature I definitely liked is the excellent capacitive touch display. The screen responds even to the slightest touch.

The menu flows like water and hardly hangs unless lots of apps are running in the background. HTC sense is just an excellent home screen. The phone is mostly a social networking phone with Facebook/Twitter integrated to contacts and calendars and various other things.

Sound reception is good though not the very best.. The design and looks of the phone is one more reason because of which I took this phone. Has a wide display far better than the X10 or X8. Battery power is good though we cannot expect a huge battery power from smartphones.

I use the phone a lot especially for browsing and downloads and doing all this, my phone battery lasts for just about 2 days which is actually good. The phone features are even better after the Froyo update the main ones being that I can now move my apps to the SD card and also that I can convert this phone now to a Wi-Fi router.

One area which I found the phone lacking is the processor speed. Currently clocking at 528 MHz, this does not allow for smooth play of complicated games involving high graphics or 3D. I knew about this before buying itself but that is the sacrifice I had to make for a lower costing Android phone.

Wish it had at least 600 MHz! HTC has a lot of in-built applications which are quite excellent especially the dimmable flashlight which has 3 levels of light intensity. GPS is great and very receptive. Tried calculating the speed of my car with one of the speed calculator applications of this phone and it matched almost the same showing the accuracy of the GPS.

The 5 MP Camera is good though video recording is poor. Music player is good well. Sounds great while on headphones but not that great using speakers. I guess this is a common problem with almost all the HTC phones I have seen.

All in all a great phone for those who do not want to burn their pockets to own a smartphone. Really happy to own a wildfire!
