OEM's giving birth to twins are becoming a trend these days and HTC has gladly followed it. With the release of the HTC 8X , it also released its chote miya HTC 8S as well. And even though the big brother holds the limelight, the younger sibling is not bad either. Again a windows phone (Microsoft is beefing up its marketing measures I guess, an aggressive strategy indeed ).

I have already covered the Bade miya in a review , so its time to judge the chote.

Disclaimer - This is a specs review and not the actual one. The mobile is supposed to be released in November this year, you can expect me to write a full fledged detailed review then.

Lets start with the display

the HTC 8S has a 4 inch super LCD Display with a WVGA resolution , 800 X 480 pixel resolution and a pixel density of 233 ppi, very good for a mid range smartphone , better than nokia lumia 820's 212 ppi.

The processor

This phone is equipped with a snapdragon s4 dual core processor which clocks at 1 ghz. This is a lower version of the processor found in HTC 8X. The processor seems to be fine as it has a ram of 512 MB :(

Memory

This comes with a 4 gb onboard memory, a bummer indeed, But thankfully comes with expandable storage upto 32GB , good and for this reason scores above its elder sibling on memory. Windows Phone 8 supporting expandable memory is a huge boost.

Sensors

The phone carries a G-Sensor, a proximity sensor and the ambient light sensor. Missing the Digital compass ( HTC is partial to its kids ;p) . We can only judge it only if we get one of those in our hands. Other sensors are routine ones you find in almost all the smartphones today. so no surprises there.

Connectivity

When in comes to connectivity this phone is equipped with 3.5 mm audiio jack, without NFC Capability (i pity the younger one ). It is also equipped with Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n capabilites( you always expect them in a smartphone).

The Camera

The phone has a 5 MP back camera and as the resolution of the front camera is not mentioned on the prioduct page , i'm assuming it to be a VGA Camera (or a 0.3 MP max ) . I may be wrong on this one.

But the back camera does come with an LED Flash and its an autofocus camera .But the biggest drawback over here would be that it shoots videos at 720p (Lumia 820 Scores here) . It has a f 2.8 aperture (allowing more light to pass through) , and amusingly this is higher than the iphone 5's f 2.4 aperture . Wonder what HTC was aiming at with a higher aperture and lower resolution?

The Battery

The phone comes with a 1700 mAh battery li-polymer battery , very good for a mid range smartphone considering One S had a 1600 mAh battery.

The price

The price of this device is still under speculation but its is estimated to be around - 26000- 30000 INR. I seriously think this phone is not worth for more than 22k . so the price may be a dampner.

The design wise this phone is extremely well off. with an impressive rectangular form factor with a good curvature at the edges, I guess this would feel better when held in the hands than the lumia 820.

HTC is determined to spruce up its lower-priced Windows Phone model with some fancy two-tone colouration. On the whole this works well and is very striking, although the yellow and silver variant is a little too eye-searing for my taste.I have to say the two-tone blue model is my favourite.

Both the HTC phones have received a great deal of attention on their visual design and build quality. . Unless, of course, the price factor comes to play. And I guess the 8S is going to loose out in the market due to that .

Comments and criticism are welcome :)

Regards,
