First of all take a look at the specs of this beautiful machine: Centrino Duo Core 1.83Ghz, 945 express chipset 667Mhz FSB, 2MB L2 cache

2GB DDR2 RAM 667Mhz(2 x 1GB)

8-cell Li-ion battery

8x DVD writer with Lightscribe Technology

I bought this machine in Mumbai about a week or so back.

So far I am totally happy with my purchase.i bought it for Rs. 83, 500(the best deal I got).

The laptop packs in a huge array of connectivity options with 4 USB 2.0 slots, 1 Firewire port, S-Video and VGA out. The LCD panel of this laptop is a 17-inch monitor wide-screen with a native resolution of 1440 x 900. This resolution makes it as 720p HD capable. It has the full-size 101-key keyboard with a full-fledged numeric pad. The keys are well spaced out and firm enough with a good tactile response.

Another noteworthy feature of this laptop is the fact that it has HD(High Definition) Audio. HD audio provides 7.1 channel surround sound with a maximum of 192 KHz sampling rate at up to 32 bit resolution.

Other features that deserve a special mention include, Gigabit LAN -1000 Mpbs transfer speeds(as opposed to 100 Mpbs of normal LAN), Altec Lansing inbuilt speakers—reasonably loud and much better sounding than other laptops, integrated Bluetooth, ExpressCard Slot, 1.3 MegaPixel Webcam with dual inbuilt microphones—and last but not the least, an HDMI input. HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface.

I still have to test its graphics performance in terms of gaming.will give an update on that soon.  Other than that it has HP Quickplay software which u can use to play dvds, mp3s etc without booting up windows(very nifty feature).

Another small nifty feature is a lock button for touchpad which simply disbales the touchpad and prevents accidental movement of pointer on screen while you are typing.

I would recommend this laptop to someone who needs high-end desktop replacement and wont be carrying it around a lot.as carrying a laptop of about 3.5Kg weight is a real pain.  I considered this aspect before buying as in my case I wont be taking it out of house a lot so the weight is fine for me.

UPDATED.

Well this is my experience with laptop after about 11 months or so.

I will jot down the positive and negative things after an extensive usage:

Positives:

2 Gb RAM: its a boon for the machine.

Screen size.i just love the 17" widescreen clear display. max resolutions is 1440* 900.

Graphics Card Geforce Go 7600. I know I know its not the top of the end graphics card out there but still I am able to play most modern games such as COD4, Crysis, NFS PROSTREET etc at medium settings.which is fine for me.

Connectivity options: 4USB slots

Build Quality: No issues as such.

No touchpad paint issues. Sturdy body.

I guess if you do regular maintenance then you should be fine with laptop.  I use a vacuumm USB clearner. proper cleaner for the LCD screen etc.

High Definition Sound:  Its pretty good considering that it is coming out of a notebook. Better than many other notebooks I have seen and used.

Now the NEGATIVES:

Heating Issue:  After playing games for about 20 mins, the laptops heats up pretty fast and you can actually feel the warmth on your palms.  Definitely not good.  I bought a notebook cooling pad to prevent this issue.

Battery Life:  well not much can be said except tht I could churn out about 2 hrs only from the battery at any time, when fully charged.

But the bottom line is that after using this machine for about 11 months, I am completely happy with it.  Never required any service at all, so cant comment on HP servicing(which I heard is pretty bad).

Hope this would be useful for many
