The HP Pavilion "dv" series of laptops has a manufacturing defect. This applies to devices in the series: DV2000 / DV6000 / DV9000

Information about this defect can be found on HPs own website at:

https://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us

The design of these laptops results in overheating. As a result, several components like wireless, video etc start failing. HP offers a BIOS update which is intended to keep the cooling fan switched on for longer. However this does not resolve the actual defect in the product.

I purchased a new "dv" laptop 1 year ago. Ever since then I have encountered several problems with this laptop:

  1. The Broadcom Wireless Card stopped working. It is no longer detected. (See the above link, where HP acknowledges this problem).

2.

During a power-up the laptop does not show any display. (Again, in the

above link, HP claims that this problem exists). The laptop just keep

rebooting again and again, immediately after power-up.

  1. The DVD Writer did not write DVDs. At the end of the process, blank DVDs were ejected out.

HP

has offered a free service for customers who own this laptop - only in

North America! Customers in India are left out without any support.

I

am thoroughly disappointed with the quality of this product. It would

be best to stay away from this series of laptops. If you have already

purchased one, you might want to try out the BIOS patch from HP (above

link).

Several users have complained about the startup problems of this laptop here:
