Disclaimer :This is from the desk of a Recruiter - who has very little qualification to judge something as technical as a Lap Top. Moreover this review is as per the daily usage of the machine for about 10 hrs a day, 5 days a week for the last 3 months or so. If you still want to know how it performs and how good it is........... Go on.

==============================================================

How many times in your entire professional life you get a boss like the one I have - who asked me on the ''Thanks Giving Day'' - ''Sharmaji, what do you want on Thanks Giving?'' and I told him ''Sir, Send me a Lap Top, I am bored of working on these Desktops''. He Says ''You said it, you’ve got it''.

And within the next one week, my wish is granted, the guy coming in from our US office brings in this sleek cool laptop which HP call's ''Pavilion DV1000 (Widescreen)''.

General Configuration of the system is as follows :

Type: General Purpose, Media

Operating System: MS Windows XP Home

Processor Speed: 1.8 GHz (Intel Pentium M)

RAM: 1GB

Hard Drive Capacity: 80 GB

Graphics: Intel 82855 GME

Primary Optical Drive: DVD-ROM/CD-RW (Matshita)

Wireless: 802.11g

Screen Size: 14.1 inches

Screen Size Type: widescreen

System Weight: 5.5 lbs.

It comes in Silver color, is pretty sleek in design and as it says in configuration ''weight'' is also quite good for a laptop, carrying it here and there in the office is easy.

Utility : As I said earlier - I am a Recruiter, so the maximum I do in a PC is internet searches on various job sites and emails, for which I use Microsoft Outlook, now outlook is quite an heavy application as emails go, as there is huge data in my machine which I had been collecting for about 6+ years now, and the outlook only stands somewhere close to 2 GB in space. The other applications constantly running on my laptop for about 9+ hrs daily apart from Microsoft Outlook are One or Two Websites I am searching, cBizSoft (its a bulk mailing software), My Media Player (Songs) this is the first thing I turn on daily, Yahoo, MSN Messenger and Gmail Notifier. Apart from these the usual Antivirus Applications and Firewall things also work full time, but until now in the last 3 months it has not given me any troubles as far as system speed and hang ups go.

Sometimes it does becomes a lil bit slowspecially when I am sending about 5000+ mails in one go through that campaigning software and simultaneously using outlook too, but that’s for not more than 20 odd minutes as that’s all it takes to send all those mails.

Now the most important and fundoo feature I like about this laptop is its Wireless Connectivity and Remote Access Options. I can roam around in the building with the machine and the internet works fine, this is good for those times when I am taking an interview and wants to take a note online on the profile of the guy I am talking to or to check for some quick questions with my boss who is sitting in USA, usually he will be on the conference on phone during those times and its good to ask him some questions or quick feedbacks on chat while the candidate is sitting across the table.

Remote Access is one more good option, although I have not used as it is not required, but it is good as our network guys did gave us a demo.

Added Features: It has three USB Ports, wherein we can fix up an additional mouse as some of us don’t feel comfortable with the inbuilt scroll mouse, though I am very happy with that, as in this model the mouse pad comes with a switch to turn on or turn off the touch pad, so if you are typing something long like this review, you can turn the pad off so the cursor doesn’t runs here and there.

It has a multiple card reader too, now that helps me pretty well with my digicam memory card, just carry the card, fix it up here and in a minute u have all the pics and videos in your system, burn them in a CD or DVD and you are ready to move.

It has two Head Phone options and a mike, so watching a DVD with headphones on is cool for two people at one time.

It has one Wireless Internet Card Attachment Option too, wherein we can have the internet connectivity on the move too, provided we have that Wireless Internet Card - if I am not wrong - right now Reliance is the only provider in that front.

Extra Attachments :Two LAN Card Attachments, Extra Monitor and Key Board Connectors, Printer Port, 5 Point Pin (I dunno whats that for) and a Phone Line In too.

Multimedia Settings :Right above the key board we have these multimedia keys, wherein turn on the DVD player with a single push button and Media Player is there, Fwd, Rev, Pause, Stop, Volume Up, Down and mute are also there, apart from these the Wireless Connection On and Off switch is also in the same line. It comes with Two Inbuilt Speakers, Right below where we keep our hands while typing, one on left and one on right. It gives Kool stereo effect due to the positioning of the speakers.

Menu Controls :With the compact Key board it has some extra menu controls too, like the arrow keys close to the right hand and an extra ''back'' and ''OK'' button which works as good as ''Enter''.

Battery Backup: Awesome. It gives me a backup of close to 4 hrs at a stretch. A good battery saving mode is the moment we turn the screen down, the best part is it makes all my messengers ''Away'' the moment I turn it down and move out.

Function Shortcuts :with the Fn key pressed down, we have some 16 Extra Functions like Help Menu, One Click Internet, Lock the System, Brightness Up and Down, Hibernate, Num Lock, Break, Print Scn etc.

This system simply doesnt makes any noise, and it doesnt gets heated up either, as some months back I had used one of my friend Ravi's Samsung Laptop and noticed that it used to get warm right below your wrist, that doesnt happens with this HP model.

All in all I will recommend this machine to anybody who has the similar usage like I have, Apart from this one I have used IBM, Samsung and Dell Laptops, but functionality wise this is the one with the maximum functions at that price and trust me HP is HP.
