High Priced Cartridges are a Let-Down

I purchased this printer about couple of months ago from an online retailer. This is a multi functional device(MFD) offering Print, Scan and Copy functions, and the product is Energy Star qualified. I required a printer for house hold printing jobs and after much research decided to go for this.

The installation was a breeze and the product set up through HP website was spot on. The product brochure claimed an average print of 480 pages. I knew this to be an exaggeration, but imagine my surprise when the blank cartridge became empty only after printing 64 pages(Draft Mode - Economy Print).

I called up the HP Customer Care and they advised me to buy a new cartridge. The quoted a ridiculous price for the black cartridge, almost half the price of the printer itself.

After a little bit of online research, I understood the trick that the printer companies play. They sell printers at a lower price point, with very little ink, and then jack up the price of the cartridges to ensure profit.

Not willing to spend that much money, I took the cartridge to a local refilled and that guy refilled my cartridges for Rs. 200, almost 1/6th of the price that HP was asking for. Thanks to the world of refilled cartridges, I can afford to use the printer now.

Verdict: Not too happy! High priced cartridges are a let down.
