They're bad. You can't use a non-HP network card. You have to take the whole thing apart to clean the fan, instead of just popping off the bottom panel like every other laptop brand. They overheat more often and get hotter than other brands ( somehow) . They have a hinge issue which has been in just about every HP laptop since around 2010 and still exists in 2015 models AFAIK.
I've owned four laptops from HP. Four. Each one dead within 2 years.
I've had better luck with Lenovo and Asus, but I've heard phenomenal things about Sony Vaio's. A few friends that own one have said that it's worked well over 6 years.
