Worst post treatment claim settlement

Its been months since I applied the above-mentioned claim. In spite of providing all document as required, they delayed the settlement. Only after I contacted them regarding the delay they said it was under query and required 2 more documents which required data that was already part of the initial documents submitted.


I pointed out the same but on insisting for it, I relented and made arrangements to get the said document from the hospital. Once I got the documents, I called the call centre to confirm the mailing address and couriered the same vide professional couriers docket number 717507.


Please not that I got treated in one of the top and most reputable hospital's and the hospital is also part of the HDFC Ergo network hospitals. I had to submit the claim because it was a day care procedure.


After close to a month and not hearing from the company, I sent a mail. They replied back saying contact the call centre. If that is so then why have a mailing facility for customer care.


Again I relented and called the call cente. I was shocked to learn that my claim was closed because the documents were not submitted. When I pointed out the details of my communication and the documents, the lady said give me two days and I shall revert back! I was not even aware of this! Is the customer not supposed to be informed of this? Does the customer have to contact to find out the status of the claim and if it is accepted or not or closed!


I just have to ask this. If I request for additional time to pay my premium will the company provide me the same without compromising on any benefits? Will the company agree and be lenient on the customers in late payment?


But when it comes to settling the claim they don't even bother to communicate properly on the status and just close the claim with out providing any reason and even without intimating the customer!


When I spend money either through borrowing or through credit card and end up paying interest on the same for the delay in the settlement, does the company not be liable to pay the interest of the settlement amount for the delayed time?


Does the company not collect late fees, interest and also just cancel the policy there by the customer losing all the benefits!


I hold 4 different policies of HDFC Ergo and there has been only one claim  in them till today. The above-mentioned claim is my second. Imagine the preium I would have paid for the 4 policies from the last 5 years. And this is the treatment I get! My claim is a fraction of the amount that I pay as premium every year.


I am waiting to see their response(if at all they respond). I shall keep you all updated here.
