I have been banking with HDFC Bank for seven years now. I always thought HDFC Bank was one of the better banks till my wife who is a joint account holder forgot her ATM card at an ATM in Bangalore and found that the card had been misused to the tune of Rs.14, 000 the next day.
Somebody had swiped the card in three different places. As advised by HDFC Bank's phone bankers we filed an FIR at the closest police station and filled in all the forms the bank asked us to. We were told that our ATM card was insured and the amount would be credited to our account post verification.
Six months passed by and now they are telling us that the signatures on the disputed transactions matched those on the card and they will not reimburse the amount. After this I asked around among some friends and found out that it is a standard practice with HDFC Bank and they normally throw excuses in case of ATM Card theft and misuse and never reimburse their customers.
