I have been banking with HDFC bank for last 5 years and in general, I have found their services to be a little above average but I have also had my own share of problems with these people. At times they just turn a deaf ear towards you. I applied for my telephone's BillPay with this Bank but it wouldn't register. Every subsequent month I found that its not registered and all they would reply is ''apply again''. I must have filled in 3 to 4 applications for the same thing but never ever was I able to get my phone's bill registered. They even deducted the charges for this service but wouldn't provide the service. Even when the account was closed they didn't refund the service charges for the service they never provided. Then, another thing, I took HDFC's credit card and when it was due for renewal and before I could tell them that I didn't wish to continue for next year (for reasons I mention in their Credit Card services review) they deducted the renewal fees from my savings account. I had never authorized the bank for a direct-debit to my savings account and since then I have been running from pillar to post to get those charges refunded. The bank (Sector 14, Gurgaon Branch) doesn't listen and the Branch manager over there made a very weird remark - ''RBI has come up with an instruction that authorizes banks to recover Credit card dues directly from the card holder's accounts even if they have not authorized the bank for the same''. on asking for a copy of the circular he wouldn't have it with him. May be he read it in his last night's dreams. The bank branch should be responsible and answerable for any debit to my saving account but they just directed me to speak to the credit card people. It cannot get any more suffocating than this.
