I have been using HDFC Credit card for over 2 years now. They have now come up with some sh it rules that the payment for the credit card should be received to them before the end of due date. Meaning, if the due date is 27th, then we have to make payment well in advance mostly before 5 days of the due date which is 22nd, so that the payment is received to them before 27 - due date.
Now, what is the purpose of credit card then? Why should we use credit card, if we do not get a credit period of even 30 days? I would rather make cash payments and not use the credit card. And this burglars, charge Rs.350 even if you make the payment by 24th, which is well before the due date. Why? They did not get the payment in their account before the due date. They don't care if there was a delay in picking the check from the drop box from there end or if it was a long weekend .. nothing. They will put late payment charges on your bill.
Further, if you do foreign transactions, they will bill you at a higher currency rate then what is normally going on the day of transaction. Plus they will charge you 3.25% of the amount of your foreign transaction as "Foreign Currency Conversion Mark Up Charges" - Totally sh*t. Why do you want markup charges when you are already deciding on the conversion rate? Are you not sure what the currency rate is going on when you are billing my card?
The customer care is rash as well. I had a word with a girl called Priyanka in the Mumbai call center, when I was arguing with her for the late payment charges story. But as per them, customer is a fool and customer is always wrong. They are right. She would not want to understand what we have to say. I lost my paitence and finally told her if this is the case, then I would want to cancel my card with your Bank. I would rather use other bank cards which are much more flexible. She did not even tried to convince, she was very happy that the Bank is loosing a customer. She replied saying, you can make the unbilled payment on your card for the current month and once the payment is cleared, call us again on this number and we will take your request to cancel the card.
Bottom line, HDFC Credit Cards - stay away from them. They do not care for customer. The only thing that they care is "how do they make money?". I have been using many other credit cards and they are far better then HDFC Credit Card, mind you I am the Platinum Plus card holder of HDFC Bank.
