CEO Rating

My final day of working at HCL is approaching. After almost 4 years of employment and 3 months of notice period, I am itching to run away from this company. I came in here as a fresher. The role was of SAP L1.5 associate consultant. Our job was to handle repetitive tickets for SAP and eventually move into L2 role. Sadly, like other department, HCL managers start a scheme but don't know anything beyond the PPT they prepared.

You have to run from pillar to post to get exposure, you have to beg managers to get more learning, you have to lick boots to survive in a project. If you have such a mentality of a low self respect just to stay in a job then you will love your time in HCL.

Lets go one by one with all that one looks for in a job and my comments:-

  1. Brand name: Yes. But sadly its getting diminished day by day.

  2. Career growth/promotion/Salary: Do not expect much hike in salary if you are from 0-5 yrs of experience and/or have joined HCL as your first company. There are 5 rating scales and its highly improbable you will get the top 2(BTW with top 2 ratings your notice period increases from 3 months to 4 months), if you get the 3rd-5th rating, not much money will be increased per month.

Promotion/career growth depends on whether your godfather boss asks your HR to get you promoted. Then it depends on various depts. approval and finally depends on whether someone from the upper position is leaving their job and theres no competition for the designation you are waiting for. Its a musical chairs game.

  1. Infrastructure: Its good. Better than others. But like I said, sometimes you have to beg for soap in the toilet.

  2. HR dept/policies: Pathetic. In HCL theres one advantage. To save job anyone can move from any technology to anything. If you want you can move to gardening job as well. Most HRs are hired from pathetic colleges and their only job is to hold the laptop in hand and walk here n there. You will rarely find an HR sitting at her place or even replying back to your mail/issues. Policies are even more pathetic. To get any approval or job done theres a myhcl portal. But you have personally mail/call/remind/re-remind and meet everyone involved to get things done. Worser than govt. offices. At least in govt offices theres a chance of bribery and getting the job done. Notice period is 3 months and no one is that talented that other company will wait for 3 months.

  3. Work environment: HCL is nothing but desks and windows. Its the people that make it heaven or hell. And here most managers and deputy managers are the ones that have been with HCL from the past 12 yrs. They know HCL inside out and thus will screw you and enjoy their position in the corrupt system. Employee first is a joke. Even managers say that.

Junior level employees are jealousy filled boot licking ready sad souls that fight and cry for 1-2000 rupees hike.

Mid level employees think they are the greatest and act like they are being overworked to get managers attention.

Senior level employees become managers in their own head.

HCL rulebook of working hours/work from home/leaves etc. is all related to junior employees. Others enjoy their 4-5 hrs of work, whenever they want to come n go, working from home whenever they want and enjoying as many leaves as they want.

  1. Onsite opportunities: Depends entirely on manager and what position you hold. Does not matter on your hard work. If you think you'll get recognition from hard work, you will end up hanging from a ceiling after a few years of depression.

It was an anxiety filled depression filled employment. Maybe I was a no talent ego maniac but the realities cannot be hidden. Join this company if you grew up on chalta-hai-yaar attitude and govt. officer morals of licking boot to get ahead or survive ethics.
